Whats the best 4 stroke??

Which brand makes the best 4 stroke on the market... I think Yamaha but I'd like to know what you guys think??

For what purpose there all expensive to turbo and make into a mountain rocket the yamies are proven I have a 1200 turbo doo and I love it but pricey

Yamaha has the most experience in this department and have aligned their company to focus on that route. Their motors are bullet proof and the quickest reving with the best throttle response. The next number of years will be getting these "muscle sleds" lightened. Just like muscle cars, heavy high horse, now we move to light wieght responsive boosted cars. There is no replacment for displacment...however technology is changing that everyday.

I agree hard to beat a Yamaha 4 stroke in stock form. Mind you it's not new technology and all manufacturers built a solid reliable 4 stroke. As of 2012 cat makes the best 4 stroke mountain sled but that's just a matter of time before someone else plays

I totally disagree with ya my 1200 doo has zero turbo lag with my front mount and revs quicker than any yami I drove but thats only a hand full and it weights in at about 550 with minmal fuel

Haven't had a chance to ride the cat will in a couple days in sicamous talked to some owners and they said good things I'm still a little confused about there weight everyone says a different number ranging from like 560 to 620 ish

Yammie 4 strokes are bulletproof no one is going to argue this. Technology is proven many times over ive only heard of engine failure if not using enough octane. Many stories of guys running 17-18 psi boost for 10000 plus km. That said I dont have any experience on Cat or Doo 4strokes. Ive read of some problems with those turbo cats but its to be expected as this is first year on that chassie I believe. All of them are heavy but ill take that trade any day knowing your engine will last 10 times longer than most 2 strokes.

Been riding yamaha for yrs 4 stroke for yrs never had a problem u can hear about yamahas with 25.000 km without a problem. All the other machines are new I don't believe they have all of the hichups out of them yet maybe in a few yrs, I usualy wait until they prove themselves before I would buy. The cost between the sleds are very close, so thats up to u good luck.

I have a Yamaha 4 stroke dirt bike and it's bulletproof that's why I am more bias towards Yamaha but with 4 stroke sleds I was not sure ..... Thought I'd ask the experts?? Thanks a lot everyone

Boosted is a totally different game, their throttle response has much more to do with the turbo set-up more than the sled manufacturer. I'd believe the 550lbs all the four strokes are around there more or less and really its more how they hide the weight (I had a old phazer mountain lite that was super light... in the back end, could not lift the front at all.)

But really if you say that we may as well sit back and not expect any new developments from the manufacturers.

Out of curosity what does your 1200 rev out at? my nytro is ~8700 with current clutching, rev limiter is ~9200.

My son has a m8 been very impressed with the sled but when he gets stuck it still took 3 guys to get it out and when any sled gets stuck they all weigh a ton. For years yamaha had one of the best sleds in the mountains for being light and fast and all the other brands were the ones that weighed a ton. The thing about yamaha 4 strokes is u don't have to rebuild the engines every 3000 miles like the 2 strokes so if u can do it yourself it's about $500 but if a dealer does it the bill could be around $1000 to$1500 so by the time I need to do my sled u payed more for your sled than I payed for my sled and yes yamaha are heavy but at the end, it just comes down to it do u like your sled and who cares if the other guy doesn't. From a old fart.

have to go yammy if going with a 4 stroker, been doing it for ten years they should have it right by now. lol
like it was said before they all weigh too much once they get stuck, and if your boosted pushing 200+hp you wont notice the 20-30lbs difference in the brands. jmo.
