Well the busiest Weekend of the year for the AB Snowmobile club is behind us and was a huge success. 265 riders in the poker rally, and a ton of fun for both participants and volunteers. we have sold over 350 trail passes this year and 140 day passes with 200-ish card carrying members. Thanks to all

Our trails are being groomed again this week and by all accounts are in great shape all things considered including low snow and freezing rain.

The AB Beach Snowmobile club maintains the closest trail system to West Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Sony Plain, AND if you live in Lac.St.Anne County and sled YOU need to get involved.
Fort Saskatchewan used to have a great trail system close to the city, now it's gone and without more local vocal support we could easily face the same fate. What would it take to get YOU more involved in the club? We typically meet once a month October through April. We attempt to organize club rides 2 weekends a month based on conditions, sometimes on our trails other times we visit other clubs trails. Feel free to float out any ideas you may have which might increase the likelihood of you becoming involved such as;

-Meetings closer to the city, right now our meetings are typically in AB Beach, is location an issue and would you be more likely to attend if in Spruce/Stony.
-Meetings included a more social feel, dinner/drinks/activities.
-General meetings used to be on weekends and include an organized ride before or after, would this appeal to the membership?

And it's not all about the meetings, most people who volunteer once tend to have a great time and come back again. Our General meeting kicks off the season just after the sled show with a 20 minute meeting followed by a wine/cheese social including sled videos and in the past has included activities such as beacon searches. Our Annual spring wind up party includes a BBQ, Camping, bon-fire, games and a live band.

I would encourage folks to take a few moments to think about what YOU would like to see from your club, fresh ideas, how can we make it more appealing, what will make you WANT to be involved?

Post'em up....lets hear it.

now come on Ian, only 72 views, we can't expect them all to jump at the opportunity.

Maybe we should be sending this exact same thing out to all our members via email?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm getting somewhat discouraged with the lack of involvement in our area. 5 years, hundreds of man and equipment hours building what we have so far, and no one seems to give two chits. plenty of folks buying memberships to support us but no one wants to put boots on the ground.

all clubs have the same issues Troy, I really don't know what the answer is. Ft Sask club is always the same 5 or 6 that go up and put in and remove the ramp. AB Beach club always the same people doing the events, attending meetings etc. From what I understand the only club actually gaining ground on the volunteer front is Barrhead, and they were a club of 4 on the exec 6 years ago, today they have 12. Might be a good thing to discuss at the AGM in April?

We will...I understand not all of our members frequent or are even on S&M

I don't think most people realize the work that goes in...even though we don't keep it secret. a lot of folks who volunteer at the events enjoy it and will come back but there is much more too it than that. I've spent over 10 hours in the past 2 days trying to balance out pass sales from the past while and that doesn't include the 5 hours it will take me to get all their names entered into the membership spreadsheet, would have been smart to have it all balanced before the rally and start fresh with rally sales, but time is not always available for this chit... fit it in where I can. I enjoy being involved and will remain, but we have an aging executive who would like to be able to take a step back.

It's a never ending goal to get new members in a club that want to be involved (as compared to just enjoying the fruits of others labors).
With the older members retiring from the sport and a lack of youth rejoining it leaves all the weight on the shoulders of the Middle Aged members....Yep Bogger, your middle aged....lol
I was involved for years but as life changes so have priorities. It's the way it is.

Good ideas Ian!
Just keep asking and promoting that's all we you can do.
We did notice in our club that too many meetings are a downer for many people.
