Just some more reinforcement for burning wood. So far, nobody is taxing that heat source and I sure as hell aren't going to by buying "carbon offsets" to make the greenies and the mayor of Victoria happy.

Yep just $100 ish per month for extra cost of insurance on wood burning stove.

That’s where a rich polluter puts money into a green energy scheme in an amount that reduces the carbon output of something to compensate for the carbon their activity spewed into the atmosphere. Leonardo de-crapio and bono do the same so the can keep their mega-yachts and multiple mansions and still claim to be greenies.
A good analogy is that if you pay for your neighbors trash cans it means you can dump your trash on the street.

Thanks for the answer. I was actually being sarcastic. I do like your analogy though.

Ha, back when I build the house there was no extra charge and I don't think they ever added one. The appliances are listed on the insurance and I haven't seen a surcharge on the policy.

Better pay attention. Lol. Soon as you mention wood stove or anything wood burning it add’s .
You need to produce cleaning receipts every year and blah blah.
Just mention it ,that you are thinking about it and see ?
Basically you aren’t covered for fire if not listed on policy .
Big gamble.

Huge gamble, every insurance company is seeing this issue as an automatic out , if , they decide to contest a payout. And in big losses , they will.

In post #65, I told you they are listed on the policy. Records on chimney cleaning, ash removal, and inspections are also diligently kept. I am not worried or losing sleep.

You are one of the privileged ones I guess that doesn’t have to pay the extra . That’s excellent.
But what’s the cost of no wood stove and N/G heat only ??
Just I hear this type of thing quite often how I am getting screwed but in the end it’s not the case ?

When I built, there was no NG and as I was the only house in the subdivision, the gas company wanted me to foot the bill for 4 blocks of installation (they estimated $10,000). I couldn't talk them into that they should look after the laying the pipe down the street and I would pay for the cost on my property.

Their thought was that I needed NG. I used electricity and wood as a secondary heat source. I honestly don't know what the cost of a year of heating would be with electricity as I have never done it. The first winter that I hooked up the electric furnace, I used it to test it out and the bill was $668 for 2 months. So lights, kitchen appliances, hot water, dryer, etc. and one month of electric furnace were on the bill.

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer but the BC government has been talking about charging a carbon levy on wood burning stoves already. Its gonna happen so prepare to get taxed they say.

Montreal and Vancouver already are outlawing wood burning, there are fines and any new builds cannot have a wood stove. Then they are figuring how to tax us on it. Here in gp they are looking at charging us for runoff. Fukin thieves, over 50 percent tax now!

The water that is not absorbed and runs into the storm sewer. They are going to figure out how much cement driveway and the runoff from snow and rain and bill us that way. Another way to put their hands deeper into the tax payers pocket.

Ontario does it. My father in-law has a water run off fee on his utility bill.
