Looking to get into a new Summit. I'm looking at 2 2016's and maybe a 2017. The 2016's are smoking good deals on either a 154" X or a 174" SP. The 2017 is an 850 165". There is roughly a $4000 price difference between last years 174" and the new 850. My first question would be is the 850 worth the extra money?? Secondly, how much potential for catastrophe would there be if I ever rode the 174 around here(with sufficient snow)??. I may want to zip around with my buddies occasionally and don't want to bend rails or anything. Thanks

Go look a the 850 problem thread. But that being said I would still buy one! And I know a few guys that ditch bang a 174 with no issues.

Read lilduke post there is your answer the freeride is a great sled I have a t3 174 , best sled I have ever had. The 174 track is great for hills trees and works great on the bumpy trails so long it is smooth. I put the rail protectors on so the won't bend unless I hit somthing really bad

I also hemmed and hawwed

But after looking at issues with 850's and first year sled

I bought a 16 T3 174 sp because of price point, warranty, and this way it gives doo 3 years to get the 850 right

No brainer in my mind

Deep down I know the 174 is my best bang for the buck. I was just worried about ditch banging with it. If they seem to hold up alright for the occasional rip then that's awesome. I'm also fat and lazy so when I do get to the hills it should make my life easier!!! Also the 174 is elec start. What happens if the battery dies??

lots of '16s around, great deals on great sleds. I'll bet the 11K price for the T3 will drop again soon.

you wrap that handy piece of rope around the primary and give it a tug, or install a recoil behind the side panel in case of emergency

210 bucks for the pull start kit, just have to open the side panel to pull it

No big deal, was easy to install when installing a can at the same time

That's what I did, mine was also a e start, which I love after having it again, had it on my 10 xpx, but missed it on my 14 xm after 8000 km of pulling it over lol
Thats what I figured...

Electric start is sweet. Install a recoil behind the side panel incase the battery ever dies. You're going to want both and will use electric start 99% of the time.

16-T3-174 electric start at $11,500 is a good deal. Got mine last week. Pull starts are $11,100. 800 etec is a known entity and will do for me for a few years. As for ditch bangin your best to get a shorter sled or at least less lug to doo it properly. I have a few other smaller sleds so no issue for me.
When I buy an 850, it will be a renegade
