I'd add the 1994 Summits - first sled made specifically for the mountains (unless you consider the Yamaha Bravo Trapper) with a HUGE 1" lug, narrow ski stance, plastic skis, HAC.

I thought the Cat 580 Powder Special really pressured the competition in its day. I remembering riding side by side with one and that thing was doing things I never saw a Cat do before. It actually liked deep snow relative to all else on the snow. Although those old Phasers also left me scratching my head sometimes too.

always be my game changer. first wide stance, super light air cooled. sharpest turning. could lift it into a pickup by myself.

2020.5 skidoo turbo will go down in history as the game changer of the year.

a couple back in the day that stood out.

97 Polaris RMK 700
M7 M cat series.. these were radically light and we started to see turbo kits show up
Rev and XP series sleds
Yamaha mountain max
V-Max 4 banger

For mountain sleds I would say the RMK from it's introduction was the one to catch until the 2003 Rev was introduced which is now 18 years of the others trying match technologies - what great race we have!.
For light all around family the original Phazer should come back - we have 4 at the farm and they are the beginner to intermediate go to sleds for new riders, just great for riders 12 years old and up.
Light and adequate power stock or hotter piped - easily outperforms every fan sled out there to this day and they last.

I was a Yamaha kid in the 90s and I hated hearing the words "700 Rrrrrrocky Mountain King comin' up the hill now!" it was on repeat on every video of my childhood, they were everywhere lol

Sbr and myself had modded '98 and '99 summit 670x's and we were banging away at a steep slope trying to himark each other... A friend of ours bought one of the first 2003 rev summits, and had it on his very first trip(with the new sled), and he sat at the bottom for a while. Then while curtis and i were pounding on the hill, he pinned her right to the top of the mountain we were pounding away at.... That was "the gamechanger", bar none, period! We were amazed at this machine. A true stock mountain machine putting our modded 670's to shame....
