Based on everything you have said here a tire I would highly recommend is Swamplites. I have used them in the past on my Can Am Quad and really liked them for all around riding. I loved them in snow, grabbed great, good on trails and wet conditions, not all that great in mud. A fairly light tire and very inexpensive.

Had a set , one of the poorest tires I have ever used .imo..
Out of round , terrible wobble . The lugs are way to long hence , when cornering they tend to roll over a little ... in other words completely scary on any hardpack . They do not clean out well . In sand they dig way faster than a Mexican with a shovel ....
Not even close to a zilla or a mud bug ( another great tire )

Ok I have read through all of this. I had to go searching to see what machine you ride. The way you were talking about clutching I thought you might be riding a honda or maybe a grizzly. I own a 2012 outlander 800 max. I have been running 28" silverbacks since I got it at 89kms. No clutch kit and it is NOT required. I have changed the belt once an it wasn't required. I did install the maverick belt as it is stronger and cost the same. You need to be worried more about the size in regards toting the fender, NOT power. You have 3 stage power steering so that is not an issue. If I was to buy tires right now for the machine I would by 28" cryptics or outback max. They ride smooth and hold up to anything you can through at them. Most of these other tires people are recommending you will see wear within the year. The tires I mention with last the life time of the machine. We are not seeing much wear on the more powerful and heavier sxs's so they will be the last tires you buy for the machine. They work great in ALL conditions. Not just an ok tire here and there. It is your decision but I highly recommend you do your research into what I have said.

Also you will want either spacers or offset rims to bring the tires out slightly. Not sure if you have the single or max machine but mine is the most stable machine I have ridden with the longer and wider wheelbase.

How many set of tires have you tried? How long have you been into quad or sxs? I'm new to quads. I'm a dirt bike guy and there is not much for tire choice on them. I just got my quad mid last summer.

We have the same machine. 2012 outty max 800.mine is the ltd model. I will look into the tires you rec. Also I think you mean Cryptid not cryptics? Thanks for your advice. Do you think these tires will do good in snow as well? Also why do you rec such a mud tire for all around use. They are that good on hard trail and side hilling and sand etc ?

I run outback max on my sxs. In the winter I throw close to 1000 studs in them and they work unbelievably well. Spring time I take the studs out. If I get stuck in the snow it is because none of the tires are touching the ground. The tires I have on my quad are at about 70% now with 2600kms on them. The silverback tires work great on that quad but now that I have run a more square cut tire I prefer them. You can turn them into a run and climb out easier IMO. Ill see if I can dig out a pic on my quad.

The is my sxs on the left and my quad on the right. Yes the tires are aggressive but like I said work well in all conditions and on that quad will work well.

Let's just say I have had lots ... & lots of tire combos & machines ...lol
The tires I am speaking of I have owned ( not heard through a friend )so these are my findings and not hearsay.
I do agree with kieth about the cryptids/ outbacks , however these are a slightly heavier more aggressive tire.
They lean slightly more in to the mud side than trail , but are a tremendous tire . Do you need that much tire ? I don't know ... I can't stress enough it depends where & how you ride ?
I will say with a zilla you will never be too far wrong so to speak , as it always gets my vote for a great all around QUAD tire ....
If I was sure I was going to hit more wet muddy trails most rides ( area specific) I would step up to an outback / cryptids/ terminator type of tire .

One thing I might add is this .
Don't undertire your machine! In other words you have to winch / spin / pin it / take a run at it etc etc to get through a section similar bike just idle through ...
Ground clearance / clean out / and a host of other things do make a difference .
I have seen guys put 26 " tires on and then have to hit ever muddy section like crazy and still struggle ..
That's harder on the machine than a larger set of tires ... trust me .
Then they sell the tires they bough , for 60cents on the $ and buy a larger / more aggressive tire ..

Ya the outback and crytids are just way to much mud tire for me right now. Plus I want to keep my 12" rims. I like the zillas they look like they would be great in the mud and sand. Read mix reviews about them in the snow. but will keep looking into them because you speak so highly about them. I almost feel like they are to much for me now but i know what your saying about needed them down the road and spending more money to get them later. I have been looking into the ITP Terracross as well because it has the tread style that looks like it would work for me now and people say there are really good att tire, but when I start to like more mud then they may be like my factory carlisle tires crap in the mud!!!

FWIW I hate mud but live in Alberta. Id rather have a machine that is setup to do it all vs one that is set up for a gravel road.

But for that kind of tire they are alright .
Remember , a zilla ( or similar ) will work reasonably well in all conditions . The MD tires , simply don't work in mud & so so in sand as well ....
