Also a fan of Zillas....I've had 3 sets on various machines. The only weak point on Zillas is that the beads are "soft". Less issues on 27-28" tires, but on the 30's I ran, I was always getting muck and weeds in the beads then they would leak. If you have beadlocks, no issues. Keep 'em pumped at 7-8 lbs helps too...not 4-5.

Do not buy the mud lites..... aka ...Plug lites. Maxxis big horns are pretty good for all round use, Zillas if you prefer mudding.

If you are looking for a bi directional tire , that is a fair amount better in the mud than big horns , I would suggest ITP Blackwater evolutions .
More open tread , a lot better spacing and really good in all other areas ...
I really like the Zillas , but as Dave said lighter sidewalls , in order to have a very light tire .
If you lean to a bit more mud & trail I am very happy with the ITP Cryptids .
Absolute great all around tire , that rides very smooth . Great in all terrain and wears well too.

Neither lasted 1 summer on my rzr.

Pitbull make great tires. They are a bit heavier and will cost you a bit more but they are awesome in all conditions and are incredibly tough. They run well on hard surfaces and wear well too. I know too many guys who loved the Evos but said they wore way too quickly and then didn't perform the same at all.

Thanks for all the help guys. keep it coming. I will stay away from the mud lights. the zillas looks good. I like the looks of the bighorn, zilla, blackwater evolution. The zilla and evolution look like they will do better in mud then the bighorn. Would you guys all agree?

Yeah they should clean out better than the bighorns and keep you moving better in the mud. I got really frustrated by the 2.0s that came stock on my commander based on their lack of performance in the mud or even going up slick hills in the rain. My Growlers grab like crazy and just keep going.

Any none chevron type pattern ( bighorn non directional) type lug pattern will not clean out in the mud . In fact they suck ...
So if your ride includes some mud , keep that in mind....As an all around tire , Zillas are tough to beat including some moderate mud conditions ..
The new generation as I call them mud / trailtires are a smooth ride / wear great / and perform well in all types of terrain ,but generally are a tad heavier ..
Such as cryptids / outback Max / terminators / muddier in laws etc etc ...
The key to having a successful tire purchase is being honest with your evaluation of where you intend to ride with them !
As no tire is the best in all conditions , so it's a matter of compromise ...
Generally with the amount of mud you ride being the deciding factor . A lot of tires work well on hard pack , very few work well on hard pack and adequately in thick mud ...
All around .... Zillas
Mud & all around ... cryptids ....

my main complaint with Zills's is sideways tractions, they slip off of a rut or trail to the side very easy, especially if wet, 2nd problem was on a side by side they seem to puncture fairly easy. In the mud better than the evo's, but most other conditions not quite as good.

I liked the looks of the pitbull but 2 problems, lacking in size's and VERY expensive.

I agree , Zillas are a little light duty for a SXS ... but the original poster has a quad and seem worried about weight.

Any mud tire ( chevron tread)type will not have the off camber traction of a non directional tread tire no dought .
But , the mud tire will go through mud and actually clean out to the sides rather than ball up like a big donut...
And pit bull / big horn / Evos or whatever ... all suck in the mud . They really do ....
Again though , if you very rarely go through sticky mud , then the choices are endless & quite good .
I had Evos on my turbo Mav , great tires generally considered to be the one of the best MD tires in the mud , and they were brutal .. in mud .

yeah, I forgot he was talking quad, I place allot of value on durability for the SXS, 8 ply important to me now. With a quad 6 ply is plenty.

I will also be plowing with my quad so that is a factor i have to keep in mind.
The lighter tires is because I dont want to swap clutches and stuff to handle exta load from big ass heavy tires and plus a heavy tire is just unsprung weight on your suspension. but i under stand the new tire will weigh more then my stock tires because the new one will be 6ply.

Mine now are 25x10x12 and I was thinking 26x10x12. Not a huge mud guy. do like to play in it but my buddies are all the same. no hight lift stuff. I think the 26 will stop me from hitting the train tracks when i cross them

Plus what do you think the zilla will be like for plowing snow?

You will not even notice a difference with 26".
At most u will gain 1/2 inch GC.
A 28 zilla actually measures 27.25, so not a huge increase and your machine would handle it with no changes whatsoever ...
Zillas are good in the snow & have a rather soft compound ... so they will be more than adequate .
I would not go under 28" tires , especially with Zillas
