should probably use a torque wrench on that too. lol
hey smarty pants, what good is a tq wrench when the threads strip in the magnesium when threading bolt in with fingers. If you dont want a b/d then keep driving a chaincase, move on.

This is just my experience. On my M1100T with an EVO big chute turbo (claimed 285 hp), the factory chain was toast after 500 km of mountain riding. So I installed a C3 belt drive, and the original belt was on the sled after 2500 additional Kms, no worse for wear, lots of shock loading, too. But I always warmed up the belt before hammering on it, and did recheck the tension after initial install (this is critical).So when (not if) the chain piles up on my King Cat (Sidewinder), I will again lose reverse and install a belt drive if available.

A tip for those who don't know. Not only doo chaincasea. But it's the bolts. Look at the tip. There kind of pressed to a triangle at the tip with 3 predominantly raises edges. These edges are for cutting threads. Many manufactures use these kind of bolts to speed up manufacture. Self tapping. Soo. When you re install a bolt like this. If the thread isn't right aligned, it cuts a new one. Keeps doing this every time until there is no meat to cut any threads and hole is stripped

Best thing to do with tri-topped self tappers is to turn bolt backwards until you feel threads click into each other. Then tighten. Same for any screw into plastic. That way the screw/bolt always bites into same thread. Not stripping. I got 13,000km on my doo with at least 10 oil changes or more and not one stripped bolt

For my Doos I went a bought new M6x30 1.00 bolts for a couple bucks. Install those the first time you open up your chain case and throw out the self tappers. They thread in like butter.

16 seasons of riding, i know my choice. I put the C3 belt drive on my XM, after 1100km and two broken belts, i switched back to the chain, i never noticed a difference in performance. The other two belt issues were on Pro RMK's, stock 800 and 600.


that's all the info i needed to read, thanks dabensmiller...Was considering getting one. i rather now slap the $1500 into wraps and risers.:p

Others have had good luck with belts, unfortunately, i haven't. Maybe it was just a bunch of bad luck that happened to hit me.
