Long story, pretty amazing though. A few years back we were in Turtle, no chance of ever towing out of there. My 925 tripple dropped a cyl on a climb, without a sound, I came back to the group thinking it was a plug. Well, the PTO piston was gone! Pulled the head, most of the inner case and sleeve was gone and what was left of the rod was jammed between the crank counter weights(wheels). I dumped a coffee can of small shrapnel out of the pipe:D. Anyway, since the rod was jammed in the crank, I thought I'd see if it would run long enough to avoid heli ride(had no money for that) I plugged the water jackets in the case, and in the head at the PTO cyl, with rags. Put it back together, filled it with water, dumped oil down the plug hole to try and keep the crank oiled. It fired up on the second pull, and I rode it 22 kliks to the truck. Just adding oil down the plug hole every few miles. I even beat a 700 Polaris out of the second Lake. :d It drove onto the deck. I shut it off and it wouldn't start, it was too stiff, LOL.
That sled was not going to leave ya strandedLOL

This story sounds familiar did the chopper come out for a back injury? We had a guy stop and help us out with a broken elbow a few years ago was that u?

Yes it was a back injury. A fine gentleman in the group, but wasn't my back. The broken elbow doesn't ring a bell, but very well could have been one of the guys that were there that night. A few years ago, my bell was rung loading my sled in the front door of the trailer at this same area...I've never been the same since lol. I have pictures, but a bit gross to post haha.

I've see some interesting things that guys have needed to do to get off the hill. On Saturday, one of my rear axle bolts came out while getting into the Holy Grail/Big Blue. Was pulling up the avy chute just before the entrance. The rear axle came apart, lost all my wheels, spaces, all of it. We managed to find almost everything but the outer aluminum centering block and one axle bolt. We removed one of the rail stiffeners to rob the bolt and... well the picture explains the rest.

Anyone else have any pics of what they've needed to do throw it up here. Might give others ideas if they end up in a bind on the hill QUOTE)

I had a similar thing happen in renshaw earlier this year. Lost the bolt, washer and rubber flange off one side of the rear idlers. Got back to the cabin and took the stiffer out like you for the same size bolt and took 10 washers from the big hooks on the cabin to replicate the assembly. Was able to ride the rest of the day, get down to spin drift and get the parts and then return all the washers to the cabin the next day. Was an easy fix and glad I caught it otherwise there is potential to rip the track, no thanks.

On the next day decided to try going through some thick trees back near spirit and had to take my right ski off to side hill for about 100m on my left side through an opening no wider than 28-30" max then put the ski back on after. Glad I bring a full set of tools with me every trip!

Other than this I've had my stator crap out on my 15 pro. luckily I was only 7km up the allen creek trail. Couldn't get the sled started but was an easy tow down compared to being 20km back, got lucky there. I know eventually we will have a sled go down through our riding career so we go into everyday as prepared as we can be.

Great stories guys
Been fortunate nothing crazy but our group did have a m7 turbo drop a piston way back in monster bowl in turtle Cleaned plug up and buddy had a jug of oil. Poured it in and limped it back to the trail thankfully. Day wasn't over tho. On way to trail the turbo dragon in group broke a chain just above the lakes. Was stopped and just starting to go. So a few of us stayed and pulled the chain out while others got the hurt kitty out. By the time we had apart it was dark, they side saddle doubled rest of way out up around and through the v and down on a rented sled in the dark! Was still a great day with good people. Snowed 3' overnight so they had work cut out to get back to dragon. But team Yamaha was headed in and kindly made a nice path to it

First trip to Revy in 2006 I hooked a ring on of of my pistons on the way up. Rode along slowly with the group all day. Still started and drove into the garage when I returned home.

The next day I rented a Summit 600. Two Summit 800s were out with our group. One of them had the engine module die. It was a long night leap frogging those two off Boulder. I was glad Shaede was leading us rookies around for that nonsense.

Think I spoke too soon in my earlier post. Broke a chain out past Hidden lake at Eagles yesterday on a 40* sidehill. Doubled out drove home to get a spare chain I had, oil and some tools to make it quicker and doubled back in and put it back together and rode out. Was interesting doubling from down below the lakes. No pics was just racing against dark and it was snowing like a bastard.

TTT^^^^ great stories/experiences here.

I I had an AC 700 powder special back in the day. Got to km 23 on the Renshaw trail, smelled coolant. Towed it back the parking lot, loaded it up and drove to valemount. Water pump impeller bolt backed out and wore though the WP case. Had the 'local mechanic' in vale change it out for me as we had another day of riding to do. Rode up to Lucille the next morning and just before my first pull smelled coolant...... again FML RIGHT. There was a group of guys sled/boarding that day. One guy offered to lend me his sled so I could tow myself back to the parking lot. Got it down and loaded up. Drank any booze we had waiting for my crew to get back. This was late season, last ride of the year, didn't touch the sled for 4 or 5 weeks cause I couldn't bring myself to look at it cause I was so mad. Lol. Finally decide to tear into it to find out what could have gone wrong after paying a 'professional' to repair my sled. To my surprise there was a hole in my WP cas, same as the first failure. Pulled the cover off and to my amazement the impeller bolt was still in place. Even more shocking was a SECOND impeller bolt falling out. The guy didn't remove/account for the old impeller bolt.

To to say the least, I was not impressed. Actually I was pissed, furious even. Gave the 'mechanic' a call and explained the situation and was told I had a 30/30 warranty on the repair. (30 feet/30 second). Needless to say I've had no problem steering others away from there.
