I was out hunting one year many many years ago and lined up a coyote in a field over the road from a farm house. I shot and missed. At that point 2 dogs (greyhound and what looked like a doby cross) came flying out of the farm yard, across the road, and thru the field after the coyote. I didn't stick around to see the results but you know what those two dogs were trained to do!

the inlaws have an akita and she will catch them and kill them

No wonder my shiba (miniature akita) loves to hunt - runs in the family I guess! He is possesed over squirrels/rabbits & birds, only one he ever got was a baby squirrel..LOL, doesn't stop him from tryin though..

Ya I hear a lot about greyhounds for coyote catchers, but from personal experience, our 2 Collies and the Donkies on the farm did a pretty good job..but, the Donkies also went after the dogs...

Grey hounds are great, there are allot of rescues out theree to so not to expensive, had a mother in law used to keep them outside too (with a proper dog house). Lots of people against greyhounds being used for this, so they are a pet riiiiiight:rolleyes:

African Boerboel, I have 4 and they are breed to protect. The smallest one goes 165 and looks like a Bull Mastiff on steroids.

We had an Irish wolfhound about 8 years ago. She kept the coyote population down, and then my Shepard and brother in laws retrievers also kept the population down. They had a coyote cornered on my deck one time...what a mess the next morning

Not sure if you can get them here but I'm sure the Russian Caucasian could do bit as it's a hunting dog.

Just north of my land the MD has been giving cash incentives for yotes/wolves last couple of years. Still isnt enough

My ShepardX just chases the coyotes out of the yard, meanwhile my neighbors pyrenees doesnt come back for a few hrs. Good pooch!

I have a Whippet (med greyhound)......she is so fast she can catch anything......and if she can take on a pitbull and a boxer at the same time I think she could take anything......best guard dog but a total suck once she knows you......just don't be a male wearing a hat or coveralls that reaches out and makes eye contacted......so not good! she is always watching the yard and you don't know she is watching you till she is 2 feet behind you......great for those sled thieves.....whippets also have night vision just like military night vision glasses! plus they have a mutation every now and then that they come out with 2 times the mussel mass.....I need to figure out how to post a pic of "wendy....the worlds tuffest dog" she is from sask and looks like she is on steroids but all natural! . Picture posted I hope.....wendy the Whippet (med greyhound) mutation!
