... guys used to build long track sleds out of zippy little, hotrod short track sleds. So my question is... does anyone, or has anyone done the same with one of todays sleds?

In the quest to be a little bit different then everyone else, I think it might be really neat to see a indy xc with a 155" 3" roll by...

Or maybe not :dunno:

Maybe a sweet wrap is still the thing to do

Scroll to Dec 17.. They built a Mtn sled out of the new Polaris chassis.. Not sure how it turned out.

I need some track improvements for the kids 200 - it's got enough power the track is narrow and next to no lugs so it's getting stuck all the time, haven't been able to find a track for it..

Long track Matryx. I don’t think it pays. No belt drive. Not 36” front end and not a factory turbo.

I think building a 175 alpha skid and cutting and clipping a 175 doo track would be fun to try.

That's actually an interesting statement. I often wondered what a new doo would be like with a stiff track, and a rigid skid.

Was actually talking to a buddy about this yesterday. Used to modify sleds, just like everything else. Also used to put in aftermarket stereos and subs in vehicles. Friend said they asked about DVD screens on the new GMC SUV they just bought, salesman laughed and said its called an iPad. Pretty hard to put anything aftermarket on a new pickup theses days

Back in the day you pretty much need to know how to tear your sled down to the tub because we all wrenched on our own equipment. Always carried a full tool kit, extra oil and five gallons of fuel, couple of sets of spark plugs & a buddy to help pull you out.

wrenched all week so you could ride the weekend, sleds weren't reliable like they are now

The new sleds allow more riding, though, with little to no tinkering. Why spend time and money modifying a short track when you can buy mountain specific sleds, that usually turn out better than modded short tracks anyway.
I would have to agree. An out of the box mountain sled is probably going to be better than a modded stubble jumper short track. Back in the day it was done out of necessity, but now with the mountain market from all the manufacturers I would have to say the sleds are built to dominate the steep and deep.

Looks to me the guy wanted to build a mountain sled off the new Polaris chassis. Thats cool if you have the coin. One of a kind.

Of course! Its about a 220hp job. Not as simple as a winder, bit still pretty simple. Power feel is about the same.

Neither the ACE of the Winder at 220hp feel as strong as a 1200 as 220hp. The torque of the 1200 is that much stronger. It's like comparing a Cummins to a Hemi IMO.

Can't remember exact #'s but 17lbs more than a NA 850 in same length. It's surprisingly close.
How much room does the 3” track have up front? Who’s tune did you install for 220 hp?
