I try to accept other sports. I don't like greenies fighting sledding. Atvs. Ect. But I sure don't understand hunting. People used to hunt out of desperation and the need to stock up for winter. Now it's about the killing and called a sport?? Of course I'm wrong and gonna hear about it but animals should be shot with a Pentax. Canon. Ect.

Complete and utter BS!!! Are you FN kidding me? Thats the most ridiculous comment I've read in some time. "It's all about the killing", BFS! you're nuts!

People have always hunted, most for survival but not so much anymore due to having others do the killing and processing for them. Where does desperation come into it? I hunt because I love the outdoors and would rather throw a drug free hunk of venison on my families dinner table than an over priced growth hormone and antibiotic contaminated, grainfed, XL Foods slab of beef!

Where do you get your meat from? Are you against wolves and other predators killing for their food as well? I guess you have no problem with abattoir's, (that's a sexy name for slaughterhouse) lining up thousands of head of beef everyday and killing them for you to eat?

Take all the photos you like, thats cool. Just don't post ridiculous carrot muncher statements that are completely untrue.

big difference to me between cow and a beautiful moose. Or deer. But I'm no carrot muncher and don't care what others do. I just don't understand the sport of hunting. And I stated I was wrong as I've never been hunting so I'm no judge

Maybe the deer was harvested by rifle in a legal area. I harvest my deer 300 miles from where I have it processed in my home town. If it's an illegal deer, you or your brother should call it in.

As for the pictured buck above, perhaps it was wounded by an archer and escaped, then shot by someone else and escaped again. Wounding game happens all the time, sometimes it's never recovered and dies like this one. To attack someone for the dead deer without knowing the facts is silly.

Yep, didn't think of that before i posted. There is a rifle season open in northern alberta.

I dont give a crap about hunting go kill what you want for meat. We buy a lot of meat from local farmers markets and yes it costs more but i'm sure there is no drugs in it like you said.

I am not a hunter but my hubby and son are. We respect wildlife and the great outdoors, as any real hunter does. We don't know the real story about this buck but if he was injured and got away that is sad, but it does happen. In the same breath my boys don't shoot unless they know they can kill the animal, no one wants to see an animal suffer. My 16 year old son has killed a few deer over the last few seasons and everyone was dead before it hit the ground. Practice, practice practice before you go out. My husband taught him very well how to safely shoot, when to shoot and when to say "no that is not going to be a good shot". They even do the Native custom of taking the tip of the heart and placing it on the east branch of a willow tree as an offering to the animal spirits. So to any tree hugger out there who bashes any one who enjoys the great outdoors with respect, be it sledding, quadding, hiking, fishing or hunting don't you dare paint us with the same bad brush as the poachers and bad asses out there who abuse wildlife and nature.

My 2 cents.

soooo if a moose or deer were ugly like a cow apparently it would be ok to hunt it? im sorry im not one to get into this greenie saviour crap but thats an ass comment, and animal is an animal some are prettier than others its that simple some choose to hunt for there meat rather than fork out an arm and a leg for the crap you buy in the stores, me personally love to take the time to hunt and gather my food for the sake of the beauty and realness of the the outdoors and the satifaction to know that animal i just harvested was treated with respect and gone to a good cause

I love hearing the "why I hunt" stories, especially from the city folk. trophy racks and bragging rights seem to be the real reasons most people hunt.

there are very few subsistance hunters these days, and the ones that are, are weird fawkers. long scraggly beard, antisocial, rusted out '77 chevy half ton....and refuse to work for any length of time.

most hunters I see up here from points unknown spend more money on their gear than I spend feeding my family for a year.

yeah, like one that has been drinking polluted dioxin and furan infused river water from the eleventeen thousand pulp mills or hydrocarbon poisoned puddles and streams.

the only time one can make comments like that is if you are one of those scraggly bearded freaks that grows their own veggies and NEVER buys ANYTHING from a store to use as foodstuffs.

Trophies, Ha, I have yet to see hubby come home with a trophy,he could care less, as long as it is legal and he has a kill shot it comes home.. And the money he has spent on hunting stuff, including gas, tags and all that we could have bought ourselves a few cows over the years and raised themselves ourselves here at home. But he enjoys going out and if he does not get anything by the time season is done, oh well, Superstore here I come.

it's not the same, as I am familiar with every kind of hunter and do a little myself.

if you read closely, my post stated my opinion that most people that are from the city and travel long distances to go hunting are in it for the trophy and/or the holiday.

I'm not hating on people from populated areas coming up here to hunt, in fact I am all for it. we have more than enough room, as well as plenty of game...trophy and otherwise. but you guys are easy to spot. just sayin'
