Surprised no one has suggested a kx100 or ktm 105 yet. If a 250 was a little to tall a 125 will be no better since they have the same chassis and wheel size. Either of those supermini bikes would be a great choice for a rider of your size...about 2 or 3 inches lower at the seat than a 125, about 40 lbs lighter than a big bike, cheap to maintain and they're pretty damn fast. The kx even comes in green :)

Time for me to chime in I guess...

Okay, your 5'4".. really only 2 inches taller than me, I weigh 110lbs, been riding for about 4 years ..

I ride a CRF150R, my previous bike was a KTM 105 2 stroke but upgraded to the Honda.

I still tippy toe on this bike, has tons of power for me, if not more, weighs approx 160lbs. Awesome bike all in all, prefer it over the KTM 105 any day..I liked the KTM 105 but it's got tons of jam.. was definitely made for the race track..not as friendly on trails compared to the 4 stroke..the CRF150R is a little friendlier on the throttle, and has lots of smooth, consistent power.

Your downside here is that you will not find a CRF150R for $1500. I paid $3500 for mine 6 months ago and its an 2007..and they don't make these bikes anymore..and they are fairly high demand.

So.. I'd suggest maybe a KX 100, 105SX, or try your luck with a 125 cc or 250 4 stroke, but as mentioned above, the 125 size is literally no different than a 250cc 2 stroke. Weight is a big thing too, i'm 5'2" 110 lbs, and I can just handle my 160lb Honda, you're lookin at like 200lbs+ with a 125. From my experience, its REALLY nice to be able to at least tippy toe both feet to the ground, and to be able to pick it up, push it up ramps when your loading, etc. (I struggle big time pushing my bike up the ramps into the truck)

anyways, just my 2 cents.. happy bike hunting

Thats not a bad 150F, the R would be really nice though and obviously the R comes with the higher price tag.

I had told her about the 105's though and have had a look around. Good luck finding one in her price range. the KX100 is another good choice.

Meh...150F ok for a trailgrunter..but its pretty damn heavy. Heavier than mine for sure.

105 pricey yes, I lucked out big time when I found mine for $1800, engine blew up..but I broke even when I sold it for $3500 a year later..

CRF150R is a fantastic bike, great for beginner/intermediate/experienced smaller, female rider. Just unfortunate they are not priced cheap ..yet. Out of the 4 bikes I have owned, this one tops them all...

KX100 would definitley be well within the $1500 price range, I think at 5'4" a 125 cc 2 stroke might be a bit much..for height and power..just my opinion though. I've been riding for 4 years..and at least once a week if not more during the seasons.. and I can't even handle the full power of my 150R yet..but i'm still able to keep up with the boys on the trails, and climb some pretty gnarly hills that make me want to puke, and get some pretty good air on jumps!
