Volvo is saying goodbye to internal combustion engines and launching an all-electric lineup starting in 2019.
Every vehicle it makes starting two years from now will have an electric engine, the company announced. The move “represents one of the most significant strategies by any car maker to embrace electrification” Volvo said, and was sparked by customer feedback.
“People increasingly demand electrified cars and we want to respond to our customers’ current and future needs,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive officer of the Swedish carmaker. “You can now pick and choose whichever electrified Volvo you wish.”
Volvo will launch five fully electric cars from 2019-2021. Three will be Volvo models and two will be electrified cars from the company’s performance car arm, Polestar. The carmaker also plans to supplement them with a range of gasoline and diesel plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid, or 48-volt, options on all models, which the Volvo said would be one of the “broadest electrified car offerings of any car maker.”

Humm and how are they going to be charged? Solar panels on the hood and roof? Lol

This generation has no idea what the oil and gas industry does for them. No oil, no import export, no cute little designer phones and electronics, Fack even the damn fidget spinner Lol
With the way things are going I wonder how long we will be able to enjoy quadding and sledding and our current way of life.

We need to get our oil to tidewater or become a self sustaining country.

Sorry for the rant.

Unfortunately the greenies are ruling the world now. Make sure you carry a spare can of electricity for them when you're out and about.

Good for for Volvo, the electric tech has came along ways in recent years, and there is a market for it, why wouldn't you??

Hell Id ride an electric sled if it was as good or even better than my gas job.

Those electric KTM bikes look pretty cool, Id rather a 4fiddy (haha) But they are coming along and getting better all the time.

The electric car market is barely growing, from 2014-2016 it has been 0.4%, 0.7%, 0.9% per year for vehicle sales. Most of which are rich people that want to be part of the cool craze. Also worth clarifying Volvo is only changing their cars to electric/hybrid only, rest of their fleet will still include gas. Does anyone actually know someone that buys a Volvo car these days? Awesome media stunt though.

This whole electric car thing is getting outta control by media, good article today below is worth the read:

Wondering the mileage in -40 Alta Sask Man.

Charging issues are avoided if you charge when the batteries are warm or in a garage, as charging rates are limited in cold operation. Battery's have range issues in the cold for sure.
I would love to see a Tesla run all winter not ever touching a garage like most gas engines, however most Tesla owners park it in the garage and preheat the batteries before leaving home (in severe cold).

Did you guys know that Sweden's government study found that construction of battery system for a Tesla releases equivalent CO2 to operating a gas vehicle for 8 years? Interesting stuff.

Also the energy it takes to heat the cab since there's no hot antifreeze

do they factor getting the oil from the ground to the pumps in that equation I wonder?

All in CO2 for building them, so if the power for the plant is from coal/gas/oil it's included.

What car were they basing that on? 1.2L kia or a hemi. How many miles in 8years?

Lots of questions, it would be nice to see the study. Lots of variables, it would be better to state

it takes X amount of CO2 to make the battery, not just say it is the same as 8years of gas guzzling...lol

Also I'm talking about getting gas out of the ground to burn in my car.(not just building the car)
(are the including the mining of lithium into the equation? if so this would be revelevent)

Oil rigs put out co2, pipelines don't just build themselves ext.

How long do these battery's last? Maybe they are good for 50years?? Lots of #'s

Ill be driving gas powered vehicles for the foreseeable future, but I'm not against development of E-cars.

Lots of bad assumptions in every study, so always take it with a grain of salt. They compared to a Diesel engine.
Here's a debunking article from a green pusher so take this one with a grain of salt too...: https://cleantechnica.com/page/3/

And as far as heating an electric car at -40 to our candy azz standards. Expect to be walking lots and scrapping the windows like a 1960 VW beetle.
