Exactly, I'm surprised the RCMP wasn't all over that (maybe they were, who knows) because you're not even allowed to waive a gun around when protecting your home.

That would most likely be him. If he finds what he thinks are significant deposits, he may apply for a Surface Mineral Lease or License, but it will take him from time of application until approved at least a year, but usually takes a couple years to approve. Unfortunately, that area around the lake, if it has a lot of gravel, is going to be busy in future, unless someone can think of an environmental reason not to extract it. The government doesn't usually listen to opposition based on recreational activities as the gov't is in the business to make money in this province.

I would not bring that excuse up unless you want a pile of greenies to deal with and no access for anyone.
Grew up playing hockey with Gordie and he is an Ok guy, maybe see what the armed guards are for (seems somewhat illegal but who knows??) by calling JLG and seeig if he would allow ATVs past his lease, hard part would be to keep the azzhats out of a posted private pit. As you can see the cleared area off of the lake I would say he has a problem with someone against the pit's location, seeing the proximity to the lake. The other option of trail relocation also sounds reasonable.
As for the other leases in the area not all can be accessed as new stewardship rules alow grazing lease operators to block access year round depending on terms of environmental agreement.
Cousin has this agreement on his 12 quarter lease due to erosion from quads accessing and ripping up the lease without permission. Steel gates with locks now grace access in.
Sadly more and more areas are lost to public access.

According to the lease contract, there are several conditions that have to be met in order for them to start gravel removal. One of then is Providing a new trail for off highway vehicles... Also according to local by laws they aren't allowed to extract gravel that close to a recreational area. How they got a permit there was very back handed and people need to know the corruption that took place here.

Were the guns pointed at them or were the the guards just carrying them. I don't see how it can be legal to point guns at people. This isn't the wild west or some 3rd world nation .
