There are plenty of safe areas to ride around Valemount, and in Renshaw. Just gotta be smart, and keep your head straight. Ride safe Ruck.....
From what I have heard is that they have closed the Renshaw and don't want anyone in there ??
anybody have any further news ??

They will have to block the trail to keep me off the mountain next week. And it sounds like they might.

I dont mean to be rude, but I hear a news story every frigging day about a car accident that killed a guy, but I'm still driving to work every morning. hell, I still drive to work when the roads are ice covered and travel is not recommended, AND THATS FOR WORK!!!!

We need to play extra safe, and talk about the dangers, make smart decisions, and avoid the big slopes.

See you out there on Sunday

Some may disagree with what I am about to say and that's fine. But just think about this. If it wasn't for this site, or you seeing these stories on the news... etc. Most of you would probably head out. Of course all of these deaths sadden me, and kinda stomp on my riding mood. But let's face it. There are going to be deaths every year. Yes, this year is worse than others... But there are still area's out there where fun can be had without putting yourself in danger. I don't mean to disrespect the opinions of others on here. I'm not trying to force you to go ride. Just thought I'd voice my opinion. My condolences to all involved in these deaths. :twocents:

I think they are just trying to stabilize the area so the ones that are left can be rescued / recovered , so probably blasting , once they are done it should be re opened

Unfortunately I have made the decision to put my sled away now for the rest of the year... I am done with Winter and all the casualties and am looking forward to summer and going for a nice ride on my bike.

sounds like they want to make sure the area the accident happened is safe before they extract the victims. I would imagine that would be done by the end of today, but will wait for a report from Barry (BBToys) or Glen (Glengine). Those guys are awesome for providing local info.

I have posted this under "McBride Conditions" as well.

The head of Search and Rescue just called and asked me to let everyone on here know that the Renshaw Trail will be closed on Thursday for a recovery operation. Barry (bbtoys) and Rod (Adrenaline) and the rest of the Search and Rescue Team are just coming off the mountain now and will return tomorrow to finish their grim task. McBride is not a happy town today. I haven't talked to Barry since this morning, but I know the next few days will be very difficult.

Heart felt condolences to all involved. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here, the snow pack in the mountains sits on a heavy hoar frost, along with many very big dumps of storm snow throughout this past winter. The weather hasn't cooperated is fusing these layers together, so everything remains extremely unstable. How many deaths will it take to get the message? We are talking about some of the best in being very experienced riders having been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time right! Riders that know the risks and carry all the proper gear and still didn't make it out alive. How many runouts do you cross just getting to a"safe" place to ride? Everyone has the right to make their own decisions on this, but I personaly feel there have been way too many deaths this year to even entertain the thought of going into the mountains. Knowing what kind of torment it inflicts on everyone left behind thinking of, and waiting to hear if you're alright or not is not something I want to put anyone through no matter how selfish my desire to ride is. It's time to think of others first, a little consideration goes a long way, and common sense will guarantee more riding next year. Please be safe everyone, make your decision an informed one that considers all aspects before taking that ride. A day without sledding in poor conditions is better than finding out too late that it's your last ride!

The slide happened at Cushing Creek, WAY in back of the Renshaw.

What makes me sick about this is the people that want to continue to ride the hills are not only putting yourself at risk but also putting your rescuers at risk also.....please take that to heart when making your decisions
Remember most rescuers are volunteers they are not paid they are there of the goodness of their hearts to help others. They also have families at home worried sick when their loved ones are out all night in avalanche areas rescuing or recovering someone who made a bad decision....and I hope, wish...pray that no rescuers are taken from us this season...or ever

these small towns like mcbride/valemount/blue river depend on the snowmobilers

im sure thats exactly what they want!

there town to go down under so we have no place to go snowmobiling!!

obviously this is sad, im not denying that. ive been hit close to home way to many times by this.

but stopping sledding is not the fix.

there are safe ways to ride safe places to be in and lots of fun to be had while being safe.

yeah i know all these people were being "safe" aswell but it happens.

whatever, stay home, more snow for me.

not trying to start a fight here as obviously this is about remembering the lives we have lost here. just saying everyone who has lost there lives to these white monsters would want us to ride on..with an enhanced level of awareness.

RIP all.
