TSS Low boost turbo

Just wondering if any one has any experience with
the tss low boost turbo kit. I have my 2014 summit x booked in to get this kit
installed but am now second guessing myself if I will be happy with it or if I
should have just upgraded to their standard kit with the intercooler. I like
dong the occasional big climb but am by no means a chute climber. Any opinions
would be appreciated. Thanks

Not sure what their low boost kit is putting out, but their standard kit at 7-8psi in my XP is pretty rank.
I think you would probably be satisfied with lower boost if all you want is some extra power in the trees and the odd poke at a big hill.
Anything more then 7-8psi and the stock skid can't handle it very well anyway, at least with my experience. Either way you'll like it.

personally i'd get their standard water to air kit, its dialed in over the last 3 years and runs well with consistent charge temps, mine runs well on 8 psi so far, i actually cant wait to try out 10 pounds, if it wasn't for my season ending injury:(
but anyways thats my opinion, ask brandon or kyle how it runs compared to the standard kit, if it farts and gargles more then i wouldn't go for it, but if it runs smoother then it might be right up your alley

it would be nice if you could have 3 sleds with 3 different turbos so you could try each one before you decided heh

Yeah it would be interesting to see how similar level of kits compare. Like a TSS low boost compared to an aerocharger without the intercooler.

If your on the fence at all then get the intercooler. A properly intercooled turbo kit will make more power without a doubt.
Anyone who tries to tell you differently does not understand how a turbo system works.

i agree with Neil, if your going to spend the money then why not get a system that runs more efficiently and generates more power

Here is some info brad Riley sent me prior to making my first dedicated water/air exchanger to drop charge temps on the Aerocharger four years ago... Since then I have removed the a/w on my system since I never seen a hp increase like brad seen below

On my system I re routed my charge tube to go directly threw the stock oil tank location, directly into the air box prior to throttbodys, and by doing this I deleted two-ninety degree elbows and two feet of piping... I also went to a 2.5 OD pipe from the stock 1.8od

i felt and was told by Aerocharger that this benefit I did will prevent much less heat fade and hp loss on longer pulls, now for this year I installed a charge temp digital gauge, that measures charge temps, I also run a cold air intake that draws outside ambient temps.... If I look at my charge temps after a cold startup, they always match outside ambient temps

now for the results, I was surprised that with my system and so far being between 5 to 9 lbs, I have not seen my charge temps go over 100f, even on my longest pulls, and majority of time running trees in good snow less than 75f... This was no where near any critical charge temps that could cause detonation or hard on reeds...

Was out with four stock etecs with non intercooler a few weeks back, all ran big boost and no issues... All were Aerocharger, Aerocharger now offer a snow/air exchanger that they say reduces charge temps, but have been told with my system it will be minimal

An efficient overall turbo kit I have learned will keep charge temps in check, testing done over 3000 miles

We currently use Air/Water in 5 applications. We are also currently testing Air/Water systems on the e-Tec. An A/W system will ONLY be release if the testing performs within our design parameters. Our current system was not intended to have an A/W system because BRP had certain requirements for the system specific to the Race Team.


Current water pump is a Bosch pump. Be careful of the amps!


A 1.1 psi pressure drop is probably not accurate and is excessive.


Here are some of my calculations and assumption that may be helpful.


800cc E-Tec, 7000ft or 11.3psia, 34f Ambient air, 110f engine coolant returning from tunnel (from test data), Water temp on a dedicated system 32f (again from test data), 10psi, 1.88 P/R, 12.8afr, 72% compressor Efficiency, 70% intercooler efficiency, and .5 pressure drop.


No intercooler, 307cfm, T2 170f (Compressor Out), 170f Charge Temp, and 213hp at attitude not corrected.


A/W, 363cfm, T2 170f, 73f Charge Temp, and 251hp


A/W W/ engine coolant, 329cfm, T2 170f, 128f charge Temp, and 228hp


No boost A/W, charge temp 33f


No boost A/W w/ engine coolant, charge temp 87f


Max delta w/ engine coolant 41f


Max delta w/ closed loop coolant, 40f.

So, you're saying that taking out the a/w you saw no changes?

I was able to run a much shorter charge tube with larger id from turbo to intake, thus not seeing the charge temps that the stock kits were seeing with their less efficient stock kits... Turbo efficiently plays a big part

We seen a few guys last year with the stock snow/air from aero, they I feel are the answer because of cleaner install and much less weight, there negative is you must cut into your tunnel

Yeah, i don't know how i'd like cutting into my tunnel. I think for the price the TSS low boost sounds good. I can't justify paying over 5g or a 1/3 of what my sled is worth for more power.

I was able to run a much shorter charge tube with larger id from turbo to intake, thus not seeing the charge temps that the stock kits were seeing with their less efficient stock kits... Turbo efficiently plays a big part

when you get a correctly sized turbo that keeps the wheel speed down to get the desired boost the air temps will be much lower, but on long pulls the charge temps will still climb very high, an intercooler will keep temps more consistent and keep the engine happier

It can't be that hard to keep the turbo charge temps down considering were surrounded by snow.

w/a works best, but I have used a/a in my tunnel that worked good also....all my turbo toys have an intercooler of some sort , sled w/a, cars have a/a with meth injection

That's a good point I haven't ever considered, how come no one runs water meth on sleds?

you can't on a 2-stroke, water/meth in the crankase would be bad and some guys do on yamaha's
