Trailer door

Looking to reduce the weight of the rear trailer door on my charmac. I removed the terrible checker plate they had for traction. Just tore up from guys running skis over it. It has 5/8” plywood but would like something lighter

any whizzy products out there?

Can you increase spring tension?

No...they have springs at the bottom where the door folds. Thought about adding something like a torsion system or external springs like the royal.

Mine was real heavy also so I got looking and half those springs in the bottom were broken. Put new ones in and made a world of difference.

I just bought a Royal enclosed car hauler. The rear door is really heavy and hard to open.

My buddies new charmac I see they ditched the springs and went to torsion cable system. I’ll have to look closely and see if any are broke.

Was thinking the addition of the royal springs might help

Don’t make the door lighter you will regret it after one season the door will not seal in the middle it only takes one heavy sled or sxs and it’s done very hard to straighten back

Forsure. Not changing the frame just the plywood...it’s built 8” centres....so lots of strength there.

One option could be puck board. I buy 4x8 sheets from Home Depot. not expensive and a lot lighter than 5/8 plywood. Looks cleaner too.

Too slippery with a skiff of snow on it.

exactly....good till you step on it.......puckboard can be extremely slippery
