Imagine if your favorite area decided to discontinue grooming due to costs....I can't, I've ridden plenty of ungroomed trails and don't want to go back to that.
A beat up trail is still better than an ungroomed ride.
My hat goes off to all Groomer Operators and the effort they put in.

Bet you don't get many takers on that offer Doug. Not many people understand exactly what effect the weather conditions have on grooming. The average person thinks all you do is drive up and down the trail and it becomes smooth for them. Keep up the good work..

Well here we go again. If we groom 16' wide (twice as wide as the mogul master) there is twice as much trail for the sleds to use. Following me so far?

So we go up and we come down and try to make it as wide as possible. The problem with your scenario is that when the sleds come down they do not give the ribbon (the snow coming out of the back of the mogul master) a chance to freeze or set-up. If there are parts of moguls remaining (and there almost always is) the soft snow inbetween is soft and just gets pounded right away. We try to leave when there is a minimal amount of sleds coming down. As soon as a sled passes the groomer, 98% of the time they are on the fresh ribbon and that generally destroys a nice baby butt smooth trail for the morning.

Yes I get it u don't enjoy taking any new ideas on how to cut back on the complaints about the trail system u are providing and yes image is everything when u are giving a service and charging for it. So u don't have a baby smooth trail going up in the morning that the first 50 riders to enjoy but u will have a descent trail for everyone going up and down and if u don't the peaple who are paying will see u are putting the effort in which will go a long way. U say u put in extra time away from your job to help with the trail system is great to see but u ask for my help when the only thing I gain from this is nothing but if I was a local business in the area I would be putting alot of my time in to help make my business prosper from the great conditions that I'm trying my best to provide. Yes I would volunteer my time to help the club and take courses to help me understand and improve how I could run the groomer better to help myself and other businesses in the area. But I come to the area to ride my sled and enjoy the sledding in a great area that seems to be falling behind other areas that are improving the areas and facilaties with newer cabins. The only 2 busnesses that seem to get this is glen at spindrift who works hard late into the night after hours to get the guys out sledding and if he can't they can see he put the effort in to get the sled out. The other place is cougars den who is building new cabins every year and hes booked up which sucks for me when I try to get a cabin but he's trying to get bigger by building new cabins so he can accomadate more peaple so we gain from a good service and he's booked up. I no u are getting alot of compla[nts about the trail system and it gets on your nerves but your sacasim sucks and i'm not the only person who reads s/m so all it does is tarnish your image so keep it up it hurts u not me. Just a paying customer who was trying to give u a idea thats all................................

You think Fernie is falling behind? Open your eyes dude! In the last 5 years we have purchased our SnowCat, mogul master, tow truck and trailer. Built 10 km of new groomable trail (that took 3 months just to get the permit) that was estimated to cost $10,000, and built a new cabin for over $60,000 (which took 3 years to get the permit) and it is insured for replacement cost at $150,000. We also bought a new groomer for Hartley this year. We started grooming once a week and are now grooming 3 times/week and fully expecting to groom 4 times/week next year. We, as a non-profit society, maintain 3 back-country cabins. The hotels have seen increased sledder traffic by over 50%, club membership is growing, family days for members and the public at large every month, our staging areas are over flowing and we are working on a serious expansion. We are falling behind? I don't think so!

You don't have to worry about my nerves because I know there are no other trail systems in the mountains of BC that groom better than the FSA and we doo it on a $10 daily trail pass.

Yes, Willy. The blade is necessary but the moguls are a little different on a snowmobile trail than they are on a ski hill. Tillers are ideal on a ski hill, period. Snowmobile moguls are harder and to cut to the bottom of them in many instances is near impossible (they were so hard from the rain the other day that the blade would hardly cut the tops off and when the tops did come off they were in chunks). The mogul master cuts the mogul and fills the hollow and then packs the loose snow. Operators who have used tillers on the eastern trail systems prefer the mogul master for a continuous ribbon of smooth snow. The longer the snow is allowed to set up without being disturbed and the colder it is are two conditions that provide favourable conditions for successful grooming. Day time grooming is a total waste of fuel other than for the image of "they are grooming". Come on over a mountain range or two and I will let you go for a ride to see and feel the process. That is if you can pull yourself away from your comfy life style over there in Nelson......

I was at the Renshaw last Friday and Saturday and it was pretty bumpy!The wife and the other couple I was with started complaining but I laughed and said this isn't rough!It was rough when I started going up in the early 90's when and you had to fight your way through the holes at the end of the trail to get up to the alpine!So thanks to the groomer operators who put in the time to try and keep the trails smoother!You can't please everyone!The snow up top was worth the bumpy ride!Funny part is the guys who seem to do the most bitching about a $20 trail pass have a truck and trailer combo worth in excess of 50 grand sitting in the parking lot!When your filling up with fuel at the pumps look at the price!They're expected to run everyday?They would be tits up in a year!I ended up limping my sled out with a busted rear suspension(my fault not the trail) and was on the edge of the trail doing about 20mph with my helmet just sitting on the top of my head because it was so damn warm and kind of raining and some douchebag passed me and went out of his to swerve in front and roost me!!ch!t in the eyes,down the front of my jacket,in the helmet resting on my head!!That's the only way your little 800 doo would ever pass a 1000 with a ch!t for brains like you driving it!!I was going to stop and come over and stuff your gay little flag you had on the back of the sled up your azz in the parking lot but the wife talked me out of it!!....YOUR MY HERO!!!....Everyone else gave a wave as they went by because I gave them tons of room and waved them by!!Seems like there is more dickheads on the hill every year!And with the trails it's like wash board on a road, the more you hammer on it the worse it gets!Thanks again to groomer guys who are doing a good job on the trails(in my opinion)!

I paid $172 for a trail pass that is only valid for 3 areas ???

Fernie i am glad u are out there grooming for all the whiners but are u trying to tell me that a tiller is only good for a skihill ?? lol so a tiller can flatten out 6 to 8 foot moguls on a skihill but cant flatten 3 foot bumbs on a trail ?? wow u need to run the new tillers man ! u might learn a thing or 2

Why is it that everything you post relates to skiing? Captain Plank, you're a skier, just admit it and move on. Go back to Whitewater, groom the ski runs with your tiller, and leave the real sledding on the big hills to the boys with cool toys. Not sure WTF you're doing on a sled forum other than openly admitting you want nothing to do with your local sled club or support of the sport. Just goes to prove your MO here.
