Track Winching

Had my last Mod Indy Lite do a high speed ghost ride over a cliff at Miledge,hit a tree on the slope tearing right ski off then sled javelined into the slope ass first into the slope facing up.Two buddies shoveled steps down to sled that was a 100’ below,8 of us could not budge it with snatch block,sled weighed 365 lbs.The sled actually fired up and ended up tying rope on track window,in 3’ increments winched itself up the 60 degree slope.Once on top reversed track to unwind the spool of rope and rode sled out on 1 ski.

I've done it. Rider zoned out and went off the side of the logging road. Very steep and just frozen dirt below the snow with no traction. Positioned an anchor sled at the top and wayward sled 'winched' itself out.

About 15 years back i use to pack one that was made for just that, it would hook into the eyes on a track. I used it a few times. It worked okay, but a step hill like that you would have to be on the throttle. Not sure if they still make them though.

we did that several times years ago, would point the sled up the hill, tie a rope through the windows, then we would tie another rope through the skis, with a loop in the middle to guide the rope to the center of the track, works well, if you have the length of rope you need and a couple of buddys

So do you sit on the sled while this is going down? Or does a mountain climber work the throttle while hanging from a rope?


Probably kill someone and destroy your sled worse then going off a cliff with a new turbski. But if it works it works lol

watched a vid on a compact winch called pocket ox. pretty neat. pricey though.

No sitting on sled,2 guys operating the brake and throttle with the brake man being the most important on a very steep slope.The brake is on the whole time with exception when throttle man engages clutch inching sled in 3’ increments,then each guy advances and repeat.The winching process was very smooth,that may vary depending on clutching.Didn’t do the new belt any favours but got the job done.Haven’t touched sled since,extensive damage to steering & suspension components and gas tank is damaged as well.All one off custom parts so will have to revive it some day.
