Torque Wrenches

I need to take out the drive axle on my truck. Putting it back to gather I will have to torque down the axle nut. So I'm looking into buying a 1/2 torque wrench. CT has their mastercaft one on sale for 60 bucks. Is it a good enough deal? Should I fork out more for a better unit? Bear in mind it will be occasionally used. Some guys really like the split beam type.

I bought a expensive snap on one but that was back in the day when money was flowing freely! It only comes out of its Purdy case occasionally. I was at my buddy’s and he had an old nameless one and it measured the same. In these times, I’d do a cheaper one, or used and spend the rest on tp.

Anybody have experience using a split/beam torque wrench? Apparently it doesn't have any moving parts and doesn't need to be recalibrated regularly. Only drawback is it doesn't work in reverse (counterclockwise).

I've got that mastercraft one as well. It's works for what I need it for.

I have the Mastercraft “clicker” style that gets used occasionally, it works great for my needs.

I have a split beam and I really like it. I got it off Amazon. Made by Precision Instruments. They make the Snap On ones but at half the price. I’m sure the CT one will work just depends what you

want.

I have one. UltraPro from Napa, works good. Actually looks identical to yours TDR.

I’ve got a smaller and bigger Mastercraft ones used them a lot. Haven’t broke anything or have anything come loose after using it so must be okay? But haven’t tested it vs others.

I've got a pile of different mastercraft units. They all seem to work well enough on everything I touch.

The odd time, engine fan is probably the most common on the older vehicles.

Split beams are nice. Don’t need to back them off after ever use. I Have a 3/4 and 1/2 snap on. To me it’s worth having quality. But I’m sure a cheaper type would work just fine.

Those that have the split beam type, does your wrench make the famous "click" or do you have to watch the gauge?

for what your using it for i would say it will be okay,just back it out when not using it
