Off to Pincher to buy some Hutterite chickens.

Please....buy from anyone but Hutterites.....

Why?

Hutterites expect us to buy all their veggies and chickens and ducks, etc but they support the local community almost "zero"

When's the last time you saw a hutterite in the local café eating? (unless he is getting it for free)

I have never seen a colony sponsor a local arena, hockey or baseball team, buy a 4H calf, etc. When's the last time you saw an advertising board in your local arena with a hutterite name on it?

They buy their drugs(Tylenal, etc) & groceries from wholesalers and especially not in the community.
They may buy from a local farm dealership, they may buy from a local fertilizer dealer (although some will get their chem & fert from clear across the province).

I try to support locals and especially those that spend their money back in the community....hutterite colonies DO NOT!

Plus, ask any farmer how he likes competing with land prices when a colony moves in...

One local colony had several of their women working part time at a local farmers greenhouse where the farmers family would sell bedding plants and flower pots.....the hutterites then decided that they should even start selling bedding plants and flowers and compete with them.

Support those who support where you live, if possible. HOOTS DO NOT.

Rant over.

Sorry FSnow, you are a stand up well respected guy and this is not meant to be a personal attack on you. When I hear of someone supporting the hoots, I can't help but speaking up and telling them to think twice before they buy there.

Maybe he's buying them because they are cheaper? Better quality perhaps? , or bartering for something else?
I'm all for local stuff, but a person has to look out for themselves these days, the community , government ect sure as fawk don't

Today's hutterite chickens don't go outside.....ever. Absolutely no difference from frozen kind at the groc store.
Even their dairy cows stay indoors, 365 days a year.

Everybody has an opinion so I didn't take it personally. No problem......:d

According to a business person in Pincher (a member on S&M), he is quite happy with the way the Hutt's support local business. There actually was a Hutt, sitting in the chair talking to him prior to me coming into the store. He said, "they buy lots from him". Could they support the community more? Yes, they could. Especially in the area of social interaction with the sports and arts. But that is their choice and their life style. The Hutt's in Pincher go to the bar. You don't see that very often in other colonies.

With this colony, the chickens are free roaming and they taste like chicken used to taste. There is flavour to them. Even yesterday, the 100's of geese they raise where out free roaming. Turkey's are the same at this colony. Cat401 mentioned the dairy cows being inside all the time. This colony has a herd of Holstiens and they were also outside grazing.

Back to the chickens; I have been in the processing area and it is spotless. Alberta govt inspected and taken very seriously as to the rules of the inspectors. There is no other free roaming chicken processing "plant" that would compare, IMHO.

50-100 years from now, will there be changes? No doubt. Will the Hutt's be the only producers? Maybe.

I doo like my Hutterite chickens and done up on the BBQ rotisserie, they are just like chicken my mother used to cook.
