Trying to get into that grade 10 scenario next year.

Hahaha....I have a grandson that is in that same scenario. After teaching for 30 years and talking to him, I just shake my head. You've heard it over and over again, get your education. One has a hard time with a trade without grade 12 these days.

It is hard to see at your age but at my age with my nice pension cheque I am glad I went back and finished my grade 12. Then I did 2 years at NAIT, then 4 years at the UofA with a degree in Vocational Education and finally another 2 at the UofA for a Master's.

It is hard to project the future but one thing is for certain, you can get lucky in private industry but it is a lot easier with more education.

That's my rant and enough preaching.

I know you wouldn't doo that in public but hey anything can happen, right!

Yes I see where your coming from. Don't you think that it's hard to think that way at at this age, sure you can look back in your future years and wish you did better and such but you have a totally different mindset as you get older. In my opinion schooling has changed a lot from what it used to be (what I've heard) hard to learn stuff in which you feel that you won't use, should be more basic rather than trying to have a large spectrum of things and tryin to cram everything into teenagers brains, IMO that Is the major turn off, learning things that have no meaning in your life at the moment, you have nothing to relate this learning to therefore focusing on these rather impractical subjects is both challenging and viewed as "wasted time". My thoughts. YOLO, their fore 12 years in a class is both viewed as useful and wasted time depending on what is being leaned and the manner in which it is taught.

Well said. All that "useless stuff" is actually what formulates a better person. The difference between Architects and Engineers; in general, the architect takes a lot of classes about human interaction that in the engineers eyes are useless classes. Some engineers come by the socialization process naturally and others don't have a clue and that is why (again in general) engineers are engineers and not architects. The engineers world is strictly technical and information that can be applied to a problem. It doesn't guarantee the thinking process. Somewhere you will always use your education. Oh, ya' some will counter that with various scenarios but all in all it makes for better citizens.

The manner of teaching is another story. I'll admit some are better off in small groups, one on one, or in home school. The public system isn't meant for all and that we can see in the vast number of private schools. Even in NAIT, I had to take technical classes that I didn't think were necessary but the European Master Tradesmen thought differently. Those classes made me a better technician in the long run.

Do not close the doors behind you so that you can cross the necessary bridges to your future.
