IMHO, that’s good for half a season of burning.View attachment 291712
Maybe a cup full of creosote
I'm glad you think that, I was wondering if that is good or bad.IMHO, that’s good for half a season of burning.
In Elkford, I had 2 stories or about 15’ of insulated chimney for my main floor Blaze King and maybe 25’ of insulated chimney for the downstairs furnace. Twice a year I would clean/sweep the chimney and I would normally get half a 4 liter ice cream pail full each time from both chimneys. I would cut and split my wood in May/June and put it under cover. It was quite dry and burned well.I'm glad you think that, I was wondering if that is good or bad.
thank you for your valued opinion
Normally I get about a half gallon icecream pail full after one full year of burning, Same thing good dry wood. Last winter I was burning Dead standing and some of it wasn't exactly that dry and I also bought two truck loads of suposedly dry Tamrack and I ended up with quarter of a five gallon pail full of creosote. This winter again I'm burning dead standing as well dead fall, I'm much more carefull with selecting the dry dead standing but this winter we had a rain in early December and it coated the dead faall with ice. Last load I had to cut more dead fall than usual to make it easier to access the dead standing that I was after. Big mistake That ice laden wood doesn't burn as clean and that is why I decided to check my chimney mid winter. I'm gonna have to go into the bush again this weekend to get more wood. Note to Self, Don't bring home the ice laden wood. Save it for next winter. In Elkford, I had 2 stories or about 15’ of insulated chimney for my main floor Blaze King and maybe 25’ of insulated chimney for the downstairs furnace. I was impressed with how little you had.
That's usually how mine is too. Cap would need a good cleaning and the first foot need a good brushing.Chimney itself was actually very clean. The cap on the other hand was caked with creosote. Top 2 feet had a small build up of creosote. Shone down with a mirror and they rest of the chimney had a little grey ash
The winds are up to 100 mph. That will move a fire quite quickly.real crappy on what's happening in LA.
