Being mortgage free was the plan of moving
u should be able to come out ahead on the plan, go spend a day or two looking into areas you are interested in, what i would do? smaller towns can be rather boring to someone from the bigger cities? i like lacombe, blackfalds and sundre, close to amenities and close to backwoods recreation, especially Sundre! Red Deer is good, just not as many choices as Edmonton and Calgary, really depends on you? Utilities in all areas have gone way up this month. sounds like double?

I bought my first house at 27 and it was an hour outside Edmonton. I still worked in the city, but loved living lake front for 4 years. I went back to St. Albert for a few years and then moved to Cowtown. After my separation, I moved to the .5 acre that I've been at for 12 years. Going to look at a couple of house in Alix on Saturday and hopefully a 35 acre hobby farm too.
