Went looking for an elk this morning. I have been taking dad, he enjoys getting out. I was putting a stalk in on a small herd and they had no idea I was there. As was closing the distance the elk all looked east.....and vacated. I looked east and what did I see....dad walking down the middle of the field. Hunting with a dad is a challenge now that the early stages of Alzheimer's affects his judgement  . He was supposed to wait at the tractor for my return, nice warm cab and radio to listen to. Try again another day.....

Now I know the frustration dad had when I was a kid and I tagged along when he went hunting. I didn't get mad, just continued on and had some lunch. Won't be too much longer and he won't be able to tag along I suspect.

Enjoy it while you can Claude. These old guys won't be around forever. My mom is starting to show early signs of dementia. She tells me the same story 3 times in a visit and I just smile like I'm hearing it for the first time. It is what it is unfortunately

Dementia and Alzheimer's are absolutely pure bloody evil.... There's no other way to put it.... Both my grandmother's had it, and unfortunately I stopped going to visit because they were grandma anymore and didn't know who I was. It was heart breaking.

Seriously enjoy it while you can. I am so happy I took Dad camping last year. As of right now he may never go again.
