$2000 extra upgrade when built the house. I sure wouldn't call it expensive compared to many other things people buy. Some peeps will put in hardwood floors but can't afford air? No sense in that.
How hard is it on the power bill? I'm thinking it would be more efficient than window conditioners in the long run.

Once the house is cooled down, it doesn't run that much.

I did a quick BCHydro search and found the following;
For a 2.5 ton Central air unit drawing 2500 watts for 12 hours/day for a month the cost is $143.56

There are lots of variables (outside temperature, insulation, cost of electricity, window coverings, time of operation, etc..) in the operation so cost is hard to figure out.

Do some fine tuning on the irrigation system. Gonna get all the hanging baskets and some perennials on the same zone. Friggin' carpenters put in the system and there was/is a lot to be changed for everyday living.
