Well 2 years ago riding my brothers sled. Going down from mountain riding I hit a tree branch it twisted the gold finger around to wot. No teth it tossed me off. Sled into trees 50 yards down and 6000.00 damage.
Just do, some claim its restrictive i personally have never had a problem.... and if you think it will be restrictive get the "teth air" a remote expensive version. And well if you dont want to shell out the cash or get a regular tether please post pics of the wreck if your throttle sticks and you fall off.
Pro- prevents having throttle stick and hit a tree/rock (or worse a person) at Max speed writing off your sled thus ending your season, or it laying upside down at W.O.T causing the motor to pop.
I've never used one, but that'll change this year. You hear plenty of horror stories about sleds coming down on you WOT. Last year I was scrambling to get outta the way of my sleds track while spinning WOT, actually the track started chewing on my leg one time, scared me a bit, so next time I go to my dealer I am picking Up a tether!!
I rode years without one and I though they were dumb, but last year i read an article of a guy's arm pinned under his sled and the track did so much damage that he lost his arm. I put one on right away and I will never ride without one now.
Get one all sleds should come on them from the factory it's just another safety procedure that will save the sled and/or other people or yourself just go get one they are worth it
Pros - minimal cost and really easy installation
Cons - none for me.
Used to have a lefty throttle. Jumped a little berm, handlebars were loose and slid down which cranked the lefty wide open. Took everything I had to hit the kill switch.
With todays EFI they will run upside down, carbs would usually sputter out fairly quickly and was not an issue. I run them on all my sleds. Also turbo sleds will take abit longer to unspool and the tether is a must.
I would invest in a tether or your sled could end up like mine. I always where mine,,i had just helped 1 buddy get unstuck and was gonna boot around for a min and help my other buddy that was stuck,,,until my incident..leason learned
