Tether or no tether

I've watched 2 sleds climb trees by themselves, tether was the first thing I put on my pro

Put it on and wear it all the time. This topic comes up at the beginning of every season and there's always more horror stories. Seen a guy last year write off his rev half an hour into his first day of riding last year at Allen creek. He lost it halfway up competition hill and him and the sled rolled to the bottom of the hill then the sled started climbing again without him. It flipped end over end a handful of times when it crashed and there were pieces everywhere. A couple people almost got hit by the speeding sled too. Thankfully no injuries.

I'm a chronic non user but that will change. Only thing I'm concerned about is when riding really aggressively pulling it while moving around the sled. Happen to anyone at a bad time? Best place to hook to? Bottom jacket? On my doo it seems super sensitive. Don't want to disrupt connection and cause a problem if you know what I mean.

I am a faithful tether wearer. I clip it onto my jacket on a ring close to where my bellybutton would be. I would not recommend that you use your arm, because it can get tangled, catch a tree branch or hinder your pull starting.
As for the tether being sensitive, I only notice it when I first start my sled, if there is snow in it or it's pulled to the side, Once the sled is running recognizes the tether code and the sled does the quick 3 beeps, it never ever is effected unless it gets totally pulled off. you can pull on it from side to side and it should still work on the sled.

If it doesn't do this, I would bring it back to the dealer and get them to fix it. It's a safety issue and I would demand they fix it.
The only drawback to having a tether, you have to unhook it when you get your friends unstuck, or of course getting yourself unstuck. A large keychain carabiner helps when you have gloves on.

teth air is cool but won't do you any good when the sled is rolling on top of you with the track spinning, which IMO Is where you need tether the most.

Lucky for me I had just started wearing my tether when the ol girl tried to skin me that one time I couldnt park it on the sidehill. i was just left with a sprained thumb instead

i was under the impression that if you cut the antenna the right length it would shut off weather you're beside it or under it. they also claim that it will shut off if you stuff it in the snow. my biggest concern is with the arm band you get with the kit. its pretty cheap. just a piece of velcro with 2 sided tape to hold the transeiver. can you just keep this in your pocket or does it have to stay outside your coat? i never hooked it up yet but its gonna take a bit to figure out.definetely more to it than a regular tether.

I completely agree with wearing a tether. Lost a sled that went wot into the trees after almost hitting my riding partner. However, I find cord type tethers useless in the trees as branches are always pulling them out and the teth-air system was to inconsistent. Three of us had the teth-air system last year and by the end of the season we all had them disabled because it would shut the sled down at in-oportune time. Now if there was a cordless that worked......

I have been using the teth-air for 3 seasons now. I have rolled plenty of times and it shuts down when i bury the tramitter in the snow or behind my back. Installing the teth-air on my new pro next week. The trasmitter bracelet is still on my glove and it seems to be holding up ok. i've seen gloves with little with a little zipper pouch on the top, it works well. Not sure on the brand of the gloves though.

Will be buying a tether for the Pro this year. A few years ago I bit'er on the first pull (low light conditions) in Westridge on our first day of a 3 day trip. The old edge went into the trees pretty hard and got fairly bent up. It made for a fairly slow ride outta there lol. Ended up renting a sled from Alpine for the 2nd day while they fixed up my sled. A tether would have really saved the sled that time.

Hands down get yourself a teather. No question...I have rode for years without, And will never go back. last year I put one on my pro half way through the year as I had a couple close calls with the sled coming down on me. The teather paid for its self first time out. All sleds should come with them, we had a m1000 cat end up upside down in a chute last year stuck wide open with the bars underneith the snow. It was pretty sketchy trying to get to it and get it shut off. I promise you it will pay for itself over and over and over. Protect yourself and your investment, as well as everyone else you ride with.

...... i've seen gloves with little with a little zipper pouch on the top, it works well. Not sure on the brand of the gloves though.

Burton gloves have pockets on on top. Get the leather palm ones though or the seams will blow sledding.

All you need to do is cover the transmitter and even if you don't, often the engine will shut down anyway because the sled blocks the signal to the receiver.

The arm band has not given us any trouble. If you put it in your pocket, you may cover that area with your arm and shut it down. I have been running my dirt bike with a Teth-Air for the summer (just for continued testing) and I put the transmitter on my helmet. I ran the strap around the chin guard. Worked well but I am not recommending it yet until I try it with my sled. I find you use much more body english with a sled and may be hanging way out the side more than the bike.

How hard are they to install on a 2012 pro RMK ?

For the Teth-Air, mount and, 2 wires across the kill switch or the factory tether connections, 1 wire positive power and 1 ground. Soft antenna wire to be run up to the handle bar. Done.
