Tail light issue

So I had to replace my taillights on my old trailer(cattle broke them off).

Coming out of the trailer there are 2 green wires for each light(one is a ground and the other i don't know) and a red one(brake and signal lights.)

On the old tail lights the two green wires were merged into one wire, then split back into two right before the went into the plastic housing. The red wire went straight in.

The new tail lights are different wiring and won't work if the non-ground green wire is connected. Both lights will flash when signalling if green is at all connected.

Old lights worked perfectly.

Anyone had anything like this?

One of the green wires is likely for the tail lamps (lamps that come on with headlights), you are probably using this as a ground and therefore powering up both lights, I would check with a test light to find which is which, and reconnect accordingly. Each light should have a ground, a tail lamp wire, and a brake/signal wire.

Trailers wiring code is different than truck for colors


Brown is rh turn, green is marker lights, red is lh turn

New style, green is rh turn, brown is marker lights , yellow is lh turn

Everything works perfectly now. Except my brake lights won't work the running lights on and signal lights won't work with them off

I figure that's how they worked. Got them rigged up to work anyways.
