Synthetic winch = BS

Not gonna lie, but your part way right. Except for the comment about me getting things paid for. I got my first 4X4 paid for and my first race quad. The rest of my quads, including all of the broken parts, 5000+ worth of mods into my YFZ and my XP came out of my own pocket. The track in the video there took me 3 years to build.

I remember back in the day my dad used to tell me the same stuff, and don't worry about upgrading if the part still worked. He also told me not to worry about having fun and actually using the quad. But hey, life's about learning, we all make a few mistakes here and there.

I started this thread cuz I felt like putting it out there that I had a bad expirence with a synthetic winch rope. For some reason you feel the need to come on here and bash me just because I actually go out there and use my quad.

If you like, why don't I give you the aderess to an elemantary school so you can go bash them and their hotwheels while your at it as well!!

I had to think about what people are saying here. I switched my wifes machine to rope as the cable got badly frayed and i had a bad run on it two ropes before agood one there is a difference in strength. I have a black one on hers now first was blue it broke first winch pull no jerking. My rzr has a grey rope. This black stuff i put on hers now dont shrink near as much in diameter as the blue or grey when pulled on and it id braided waaaay different cant find the bag i got it in though must have gone last garage clean up. So what im trying to say is maybe do some winch rope research cause there is obviously a difference in types.



And inhave to say you will look back some day and laugh at peoples sarcasm on bugging you

While reading one of your comments on another topic I realized by looking at your picture it looks like you have a roller fairlead. Do yourself a favor and throw that in the garbage and buy yourself a hawse fairlead as these are recomended for use with synthtic rope. With the roller fairlead the rope can get pinched near the rollers edge and will cause the rope to break. With the right equipment you will love synthtic rope!

I never heard of these before, how much do they go for? I'm hoping that this time my rope doesn't break on me so I can enjoy synthetic. Thanks!

Just did a quick google and found one for $40 but that seems maybe a touch high. Mine came standard with the viper winch so Im not 100% sure of the cost. Make sure its an aluminum hawse fairlead and you should be able to mount it where your roller one mounts but maybe call the dealer first to double check.

Bought one of the grey ropes for my son in laws 750 kawi years ago. Of coarse his quad got stolen right after that. When he finally retrieved the quad 3 weeks later (no thanks to the police at all). The rope was frayed all to hell, i thought it was abuse ...but now i am not so sure. Great thread!! maybe after a few more pages of useful info we can all have the best stuff on our winches. Instead of spending tons of money and time finding out the hard way.

Looks like I got a head start on the hard way. Soon enough and I'll got it figured out. Sucks about the brute! Glad to hear it was recovered.

Another thing you should get if you dont have one is a rubber line saver so your hook doesn't knick the aluminim cause if there is a little knick it will cut the rope just enough and break it. If you do get a rock chip or something in it just sand that spot out so its smooth again and your good to go.

Good question,,the rzr and quad I have came with the blue rope and roller..

I will call and ask..

We have not broke the rope on either machine yet,,and have used the winches a lot.

I have always used a hawse fairlead with synthetic line. I'm sure a roller fairlead would be okay, just as long as it's new...the old steel cable will mark and burr the rollers, giving the synthetic a place to snag. We had a couple tire issues on the 6x6 Ranger last year at the jamboree, and had to winch the front end up a tree. The 2 year old synthetic line never missed a beat.

I'll talk to my dealer and see whats up about that and see if they can give me a Hawse one or something cuz when I was winching the rope was pulled up nice and tight agaist the fairlead

I have always used a hawse fairlead with synthetic line. A roller fairlead is fine as long as it is meant for synthetic rope, has no gaps between the roller and mount were the rope can get caught. If you run your rope in tight so the hook hits the roller you will stand a chance of cutting your rope by marking the roller. It would cause the same problem with a hause fairlead. I had synthetic rope on my last atv with a roller and never had any problems.

If your worried about anything bending just put a winch saver on the end, then you can pull it in tight with no worries.

I use a "Dog Dong" for my winch cable !! (OK no smart comments !! LOL) Those dog chew toys !!! Just thred your cable threw ad re-attach the hook. Been using it for a couple years now and no problems !! My Dad has my old quad and it still has its "Dong". (Please, no comments, again !! LOL)
