News Release - AEP Public Survey reveals overwhelming input against the proposed Bighorn Park. LoveYourTrails has received the complete results of the RAC (Recreational Advisory Council) survey conducted by the Alberta Government this spring. Provided to us by the AOHVA’s (Alberta Off-Highway Vehicle Association) Freedom of Information Request to the Government – we analyzed the full 713 pages of over 7000 public input responses to the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan. Of responses specific to creating a Bighorn Park, an overwhelming 85% were opposed and only 15% supported. Of the entire 7000+ surveys responses, 54% clearly stated they do not support a Bighorn Park, any further restrictions, and were notably upset with process and conduct. Less than 10% of comments were in support of turning the Bighorn Public Land Use Zones in to Bighorn Park, or implement further protections.
LoveYourTrails conducted a Bighorn Recreation survey this spring, and our results were similar. 74% were opposed to a Bighorn Park, with only 8% in favor. 18% supported only if all current activities and access remained the same.
We hope this Government will respect the majority input and the many recreational organizations supporting our backcountry activities, and keep the Bighorn Backcountry as the Public Land Use Zone for all Albertans to responsibly enjoy. This designation already ensures protection of the environment, while allowing responsible and sustainable use.
LoveYourTrails is a multiuser group supporting diverse recreational activities and organizations representing responsible enjoyment of the backcountry. Alberta is a province of diversity, and whether access to backcountry enjoyment is by foot, hoof or by motor - there are solutions to ensuring sustainable enjoyment of the environment for future generations.
We all love the environment, and want to preserve ALL Albertans access to responsibly enjoy it.

With these recommendations and surverys that have been done we have way more clout to get this overturned by the next voted in government. The UCP goverment , Jason Nixon is on our side and we have been working with him to make sure this is followed through.

but when jason was asked if the ucp would overturn this park thing, he side stepped the question and wouldn't give a solid yes or no ……. It's on his fb page

This is the part that I’m worried about

If they win, and don’t see any political gain to get the land back to the people, they aren’t going to waste their time, or possibly looking bad on TV for “closing” parks

exactly.... This problem needs tackled now, upfront.... But i'm afraid nothing is going to happen and Shannon Phillips(and y2y) wins her way :(

Yup, another survey because the first one didn’t have the results they wanted, so they’re trying a second time.

Yup I agree, what a pain to keep doing this, but if we don't do anything nothing will change. At least we can say we tried! Like someone else said, best thing to do is to VOTE in 2019!

Let's be careful filling out this survey. The government has a way with wording that steers you in responding the way THEY want and not your true feelings. A no could mean a yes in the way the survery is written. Let's wait till someone checks out the questions first. Just a suggestion. Survey worked against us in Castle Park survey.

I agree, is there anyone here that’s a lawyer that wants to oppose the Y2Y agenda? It’d be pretty handy to have some answers written up that we can all use to ensure what we want doesn’t get all twisted up.

Personally, I don't think you can write in manner that they won't turn it around. It is there agenda and they are in bed with Y2Y. This will be just like Castle.

We have to hope that there is enough pressure against them but I don't think it matters. Politicians are sleaze bags and lie, lie, and lie.
