Looking for some insight as to how to set up the boat for surfing...

2009 Malibu Wakesetter, it has the power wedge and four onboard tanks.

With the power wedge down, all tanks full, four people on the port side, the surf wave was there but not clean, lots of splash.....

What do I need to do to clean it up....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for surfing, do you not just fill the tanks on one side?

Depends on the boat. What I have found works well on a few different boats I've setup is, fill everything, put your people surf side, drain opposite side until wake cleans up. Some boats are picky where the wake plate is set at so you may have to play with that a bit. Can also play with speed a bit. Most boats are between 10 and 11.5 mph

I know less than nothing about this other than two days in my sons new Moomba, but his seemed to work best with the passenger load evenly spread in the boat, all 3 ballast tanks full, and the wake former extended on the opposite side from the wave you want to surf on. Cruise set anywhere from 10 to 11 mph depending on how many were in the boat. The other thing I learned is Twisted Tea sneaks up on you! There, that's all I know.

I run the ballast on the opposite side completely empty as I find that the best. Obviously all the people in the boat on the surf side and if possible two sitting right in the back corner. If you are only running factory of about 300lbs per side and only 4 people in the boat you need more weight! My factory are 250 per rear and 500 front and then I have fat Sacks of about 1100 each side plus another 400 lb for the front if need be! My boat is set at 9.8 mph-10.2 works best. Good luck!

Just upgraded from a 2009 malibu wakestter, full tanks on front and mid, and on the surf side in the rear. Wedge about 2 clicks up from bottom, and we had 2-400 lb sacs , one in the back and other on the seat on surf side. Gotta play with it until you get it set.

note: malibu props run counter clockwise ( i am pretty sure) this is why your other side is most likely very clean wave. You will typically need more weight on that side, thats the side i surf on and worked when i added way more weight,,,
bottom line, buy bags, and a high flow pump.

I fill all my bags except for the side my daughter surfs on and turn the boat slightly to one side and the wizard lake guys told depends how many people in the boat I don't need to put my power wedge down

I surf on the left side. So with our 2012 wakesetter I fill the ballast on the left rear and the center. I also put the wedge down all the way. seams to make the best wave. cruise set at 9.8 mph. If we have quite a few people in the boat I will fill the front tank. This makes the wave longer. I find if you fill the front tank with not many people in the boat the wave will be long but not high enough.

Try having you wakeplate no more than half way down , worked wonders on our 2004 Moomba Mobius LSV

Theres a few companies out there that sell them, and theres also a few different styles of removable ones so that you don't have to drill into your boat. ive seen a suction cup style from Mission, or a Velcro stripped product from Ronix seems to be the most popular

Fill one side and front tanks adjust the speed between 10-11.5 it can take a minute for the wave to form so be patient and make sure there is some weight up front as well the deeper the water the better the wave you can't surf in less then 10' of water hope this helps

Weight on the side gives the wave height up front weight gives it length should have at least 1100lb on surf side and next to none on other!

You can buy these wave shapers. Brother in law has one on his mastercraft X2. He's really happy with it.

I was to cheap to buy one plus my swim platform is tight to the boat so I made my own. Just pins in when I need it. My wife hates it as it doesn't steer very good with it installed.

Purchased a Delta Wake shaper by Mission from Riverside Marine, a couple weeks ago....
Didn't think we were going to get to try it out....but was off work last Friday, a last minute decided to head to the lake for one last spin...

The delta works great, easy to use...

These pictures are with only two adults and two kids in the boat, both rear ballast tanks full, the middle tank full and the front tank half full...didn't get around to putting any water in the after market bags, to make the wave even taller... or just bring more people...lol
No more having to switch water from side to side and list the boat....

Your wave looks good, So what did you make, how to you shift it from side to side?

similar to niners above^^^ and it just flips around from side to side, but same thing wife didn't like the way the boat steered with it on so now im using a suck gate similar to the mission surf one. wave isn't as big but boat handles much better
