supercharged two stroke?

currently throwing the idea of a supercharged m8 maybe by speed works. Had a turbo pro and had a winter plagued with issues. Just curious if many people have ran the supercharged kit. cant say that i have ever seen one other than youtube videos. Lets hear whose seen em...

what year of pro and what turbo kit? was thinking about throwing a turbo on my pro but I just want to be able to pull the cord and ride!

Unfortunately it really wouldn't work effectively with the current engines, as the supercharger will just blow the air through the motor as the intake and exhaust ports are open at the same time. If there was a way to have a seperate exhaust valve so the valve could be closed to allow the cylinder to contain boost then it would work.

This system worked effectively on the old detroit diesels as the supercharger could then blow out all the spent air/fuel mixture ensuring a fresh charge for the next cycle. But this system was needed because there was no sealed crankcase to pump the air through the motor like a sled motor, and some of the engines were supercharged and turbocharged.

Turbos get around this problem by creating backpressure on the exhaust side effectively holding in the compressed air fuel charge.

I'm not saying a supercharger wouldn't add some power, just not enough to be worth it IMO.

that is my thought exactly, i had a 2011 pro with the 2011 silber kit, totally far from pull the cord and go. I got it sorted out towards the end of the year, mostly plagued by design flaws in the fabrication of the kit, but also partly the fuel controller. I really like to tree ride and it seemed the way that i had to ride it i really had to carry a lot of speed to keep it spooled. I have also been looking into these gtx 2860 turbos, i see boondocker sells them as the throttle response turbo. I talked to a couple people at the edmonton sled show, but it seemed like they were very un educated. Saying that the turbo is totalled different and doesn't even compare to a regular gt2860. Where as from what ive read on the garrett site it is it just a slightly different housing and wheel.

After talking with Neil at Boost-It he says clutching plays a far more important role in spool-up then a gt2860 vs gtx2863 will. He says that the difference between the 2 turbos almost isn't noticed by the average rider when clutched right.

But I guess I will see as I have one of his HO kits coming with a GT2860 turbo.

A person could always try his clutch kit on the silber to see if it would make a difference.

The kit comes with a new can, I wonder if they use it to increase backpressure to help retain the boost pressure within the cylinder?

Exactly what Ripcharger was doing...so a safe bet Speedwerx is doing the same thing.

So i guess you get less/no lag at the cost of increased fuel economy over a turbo setup.

Way beyond my knowledge level. I know my supercharged Nytro was harder on fuel than a comparable turbo, but the instant power more than made up for it. Sure wish I could have learned to ride that sled!

Nothing pulls like a boosted nytro (turbo or supercharger) but they definitely are a handful in the trees compared to a 2-stroke, I'm hoping to have the best of both worlds this winter with mine.

Ripcharger is done, he found an investor and they expanded operations but never got a finished product to market. The original designer was a perfectionist and wasn't open to other peoples work or ideas, to his demise. They built a flapper valve into the can for back pressure but never really perfected how to actuate it. It was definitely an interesting kit on an M8.

You need to have a variable restrictor in the exhaust. i tried. it isnt easy, quick or cheap.

By the time you get it sorted out it will likely be as heavy as a 4-stroke and it wont be anywhere near as efficient as a turbo 2 stroke.

i am curoius to know what he is using for his clutch setup, i read a lot in the turbo form last year on clutching and tried lots of peoples setups, besides a straight 50 helix. spent lots money on springs and fooling with weights, never really found the end all be all setup.
