Hey guys. I got a 1999 Summit 600 and it smokes like crazy, burns a crapload of oil, and there's powerloss. Any ideas of what might be wrong? A possibility I heard was crank seal?

Check oil pump lever and cable for unrestricted travel. Crap oil can cause similar problem. Always use -Doo Blend for best results.

Are you fouling plugs? I broke an exhaust spring on a Mach Z, and it caught on the oil pump, holding it open. I went through over 2 litres of oil and 2 or 3 plugs in 4 hours of riding, plus it was a bag of sh&t, wouldn't pull at all. Got back to the trucks and found the problem.

Often when the pump fails it fails WFO. I just changed one on 780 triple for that reason.

I had a 99 600 do the same thing.. The overflow from the oil reservoir goes into the crankcase where the water pump/oil pump gear contacts the crank, which lubricates it as well.. its a plastic gear.. and only lasts a little while without lube as it shears/melts the teeth off the gear. What happened in my situation, was the crank seal was gone, and it sucked the oil from where the waterpump/oil pump gear runs on the crank. No water pump - no oil, and it overheated right away. I would run your sled for a few minutes, then fill your oil right full and see if it drops overnight... if it does, I would suspect a bad crank seal.
