Driving a rig with a smoke in one hand, cell phone in the other and using your elbows to steer. My buddy was really good at multi-tasking..... Lol

sounds really bright too o.0

No gut..... And actually.... He's a quite successful lawyer with Bryan and Company LLP in Edmonton. Truck driving, much like myself, was just a summer thing while going to school.

Yeah...... Wouldn't know and honestly could care less. What lawyer doesn't break laws.... or bend them to their liking

Checked and he has since moved on and is no longer with that firm. Does his own thing now. Oh well.... Lol.

Are you for real? Obstructing traffic by driving bumper to bumper at speeds less than the flow of traffic is an azzhole move. I guess being from PG you've never had the pleasure of driving highway 63 in Ab.

Apparently you're for real! Is there an Alberta law that says you must pass when it is extremely dangerous to do so while driving along Hwy 63 or do those that pass in this situation just have no control over their own actions because they are controlled by aliens? Are all the people that are killed in crashes along that hwy while passing being forced to pass? Not too frikken likely.

No one forces anyone to pass another vehicle. If you pass someone you do so because YOU make the choice!

"Obstructing traffic by driving bumper to bumper at speeds less than the flow of traffic" Are you kidding? If multiple vehicles are driving bumper to bumper are they not driving along with the flow of traffic? The first vehicle in the line up may not be travelling at the posted limit but the rest behind sure are driving with the flow of traffic.

Attitudes like this kill people.

I was travelling down the 101 ave from Sherwood Park to 75 street. A fellow with his girlfriend were riding a crotch rocket down the street like the hounds of hell were after them. He was in full leathers, full face helmet and gloves, she was in flipflops, shorty shorts and a bra shirt. Nice to look at but all it takes it one spill and her pretty ass is left on the road. Just don't get it!

If you are following a vehicle and don't have the power to overtake them, back off and create a space where faster travelling vehicles can safely pass. It's a simple concept that many seem not to grasp.
Understand that there are some people who may not posses the Zen like patience and widom you have and will pass when it's maybe not safe to do so. Having to pass a friggin convoy exacerbates the problem.
Don't worry about me, I've got well over a million KM's under my belt driving service trucks around without a ticket or an accident. (I don't count wildlife encounters though)

just got back from a run to Suncor on thursday, 9 axle loaded taking a Hitachi up and brought one back. the lack of driver patience and common sense is simply astounding on 63. glad I don't have to make that run with any kind of regularity.

Pick-ups owned by construction companies blasting through construction zones on the roads. Aren't they the ones who want us to slow down through work sites on road ways. Maybe they should set the example, even if it's not their site.

Heading down through the Battle River on 14 and two combines coming up the west side sideways on trailers almost in my lane without a pilot vehicle right where the bend in the road is.

watched a person pass a house being moved on highway 2 the truck moved over to miss the guard rail taking up both lanes the pilot truck had already moved over to stop any traffic from passing. they drove past the pilot truck and had 1 wheel off the shoulder as they ran out off room going past the house i was hoping they would loose control and hit the cable

tailgating is the worst -- didn't they teach is that 2 seconds gap is the minimum? I see lots of idiots tailgating with...and no I am not exaggerating - a 0.2 second gap. This includes every vehicle type on the road.

Yup, tailgaiting is the dumest thing ever. I see it everyday on the Yellowhead. If all the traffic was to freeze frame you could stand in between the vehicles, stretch out your arms and touch both the rear and front of vehicle at same time, that is not 2 sec,. No time for stopping for sure. And they are all doing 120kms or more. And I have seen many times where all of a sudden people are slamming on brakes and diving for the shoulder(or heaven forbid my lane) to try to avoid the car in front who is doing the same thing. I always stay far enough back so that I can see far ahead of me and see properly.

Does getting fuel count, because this made me laugh. Pulled into a gas station that had roughly half it's pump nozzles covered with plastic bags indicating obviously that they were not working...... Well, obvious to me. A little SUV pulls in with 2 young women in it. The driver gets out, grabs a nozzle with a bag on it, tears the spout through the bag, sticks it in here car....... and...... flips the pump on, but nothing comes out. So then she sends her partner inside to complain the pump isn't working. They just looked stunned when the attendant told them the pumps were not working hence the bags... Seriously?

Or merging the other day on highway 2 coming out of Leduc. Some SUV speeds up to match my speed and stays side by side with me forcing me to brake and pull in behind her....... Thing is other than her we were the only 2 vehicles on the road at the time. I guess changing lanes allowing me in was beyond her mental capacity.

And then being tailgated by a little car I passed...... Yes I was going faster and fine if you want to run with me, but on a 4 lane road, or any road for the matter , you don't need to sit on my back bumper..... The car did not want to pass me as any time I changed lanes it did too.

Saw a wreck that day between 2 pickups with trailers, a car and a SUV. Probably distracted driving, or lack of cerebral capacity was the cause. Or who knows, maybe one of the drivers had a seizure.

I like staying home. Or once I get to work as the air weapons range is so heavily patrolled by range police that they are very few incidents and shenanigans...... They still happen but in less frequency.

I prefer to hide under a mushroom so to speak and stay off of commuter highways, period.

Wow lots of complaining about trucks not saying every truck driver is perfect guess as part of driver training should ride a day in a truck to see what they face they put up with to them "it just another day". No one thinks about their way EG: trucks convoyed up have to pass them all...trucks are not are ferrari's maybe the 2nd or 3rd truck is waiting for a safer place to pass becasue they are trying to get around the 1st truck also they need they need 10x the space a 4 wheeler needs to pass then four wheelers passing all the trucks at once doesn't help. And the guy on the motor bike in the rain 1st of all why do you want to drive in the pouring rain with a semi on your azz? any slip hydroplane bad bump and your going under a truck especially in the mountians trucks run the hills to try to maintain some sort of speed I think he was being nice if he wanted to he coulda passed you you and blew you off the road with wind and spray it could have ended a way different .....I'm kinda playing the devils avocate here because I am on the both side of the fence when comes to this but 4 wheelers never see the truck side of things and vice versa

I say everybody should have to obtain a CDL. Not necessarily get a job that requires a CDL but atleast obtain one so you know what we face while behind the wheel

Meh, truck drivers are like every other licensed driver in this province. I hold a valid Class 1 myself that I got back when I drove truck for summer jobs while going to college. I could drop it now because I know I will never need it again...... but I paid for it so I just keep it.

That said it takes almost as little skill to get as a Class 5 does so how does that suddenly make the drivers so much better? It doesn't.... And you see the results of it on the roads daily.

What about the pebble jockey drag racers in every lane..... The trucker that doesn't know how to use mirrors...... Or the one I love that I see a lot of..... They can't back up if their life depended on it. That was one thing I have been good at my whole life is backing up a trailer and watching most of these clowns makes me shake my head. It's just jack knife, jack knife, jack knife, hit a post...........

I took my 1 the old fashioned way..... I learned how to drive on my own, went to registries and picked the up the instructor. We did the pre trip in the yard and then hit the road for my test. I passed with flying colors...... but I know how to operate a motor vehicle. My backup was on a soft shouldered gravel road, and I stayed in my lane even though the mud started sucking the trailer to the ditch.

My buddy did the Cameron driving school route. Most of his classmates struggled come back up day when they had to back a van in between barrels that were about 50 yards apart on an asphalt pad...... Yeah...... mad skills.

The reason there are more poor 4 or 2 wheel drivers is simply because there are more of them, period.

I try and give truckers lots of room and still be courteous. But it's getting harder and harder daily when all they do is cut you off, ride your ass and drive like a bunch of angry teenagers. "Professional Driver" doesn't mean a lot this day and age.

I still see lots of good ones...... but there are just as many poor ones like anything else.

One main reason I see it would be good is it would give these idiots in their cars/pickups an idea how long it takes to stop that amount of weight, and people who think as soon as they get into your lane in front of you, it's your job to be able to stop and not rear end them. Anyone who doesn't think it is more stressful driving truck then a regular vehicle hasn't drove enough or never drove truck at all. It's not driving, it's the other idiots on the road.

My biggest piss off is merging onto a 4 lane highway, seeing everyone in the slow lane not moving over to the empty left lane. 99% of the time if there's trucks in it I barely even have to look because they will get over (because it works both ways), but so many people in cars just don't pay attention. But likely they are the ones who get pissed off if they are trying to merge and no one lets them in. It gets tiring doing it all day and watching out for these idiots, who could take 2 seconds to switch lanes and make it easier for you. Instead I just get tired of it, get up to speed as much as I can and just start pulling over forcing them to get out of my way. I get the finger all the time from these retards who finally move over to the other lane after, somehow thinking i'm in the wrong.

Yes there is many crappy truckers out there, but on average there is NO doubt they are better drivers then class 5 drivers.

I disagree..... To a certain extent. Take a look on facebook at a paeg called superstar drivers of the oilfield...... It's about 90% heavy trucks to 10% of passenger car traffic. It's humorous but it's not.

If you are a trucker you will probably defend them...... I have the license, had plenty of frustration while driving myself which is being countered now by both heavy truck and passenger car traffic alike.

I do agree however that if people maybe had an inkling of what acceleration and stopping distance is like for a heavy truck they may respect them a bit more. But I doubt it.....

People won't allow another car or pickup to merge either so what are the chances of finding 2 or 3 that will allow something 3 or 4 times the length to merge...... Zero.

I don't know if it would do any good. I also know most people would never be able to even shift a truck to have to worry about what it's like to drive one, because they can barely handle driving a regular car.

It's been a while but I remember seeing the stats posted on here of what % of accidents involve trucks, and when they do what % the trucks were at fault, I though it was like 20% of the time a truck was involved it was at fault. That says a lot.

Difference is, in my pickup I can get up to speed fine and adjust to get in with traffic. Not possible in a loaded truck, I mean depending on the place i'm lucky to be doing 75 most of the time. But I stopped caring, I just start coming over now so it doesn't bother me. It's just amazing to see how little some people pay attention.

The accident thing is pretty easy to skew. There is probably about 10:1 passenger car traffic to heavy trucks.... So there will be less at fault accidents accordingly.

If you watch your fellow class 1 driving friends you will see just as many of them that can't properly handle a truck.... Again, less trucks, less problems.

Like I said, I do agree with some of it, and I also agree that there are a lot more poor passenger vehicle drivers than truckers. But again, there is a lot less truckers on the road in comparison so the number of poor drivers drops accordingly.

I won't defend any of them..... Wait until the snow flies and go down a highway in this province. For every 4 or 5 passenger cars in the ditch upside down there is a semi in there too..... And to make the statement that a passenger car put them there is ridiculous.

People can't drive. I don't care what class of license you hold because it doesn't make you smarter or better than the others most of the time.

In defense to a truck driver you should be a better driver than most, and you should hold yourself to a higher standard. Driving is your job! But experience has shown me that like most other positions out here nobody cares about their job either. They just whine about how the rest of the world is against them and they don't get paid enough to put up with what they do.
