Had the recall done on my 06,they changed the plug at the heater motor as the fan wouldn't work on #5.My stereo worked fine though.I think it's your anti theft thats giving you grief, need to enter your security code.Is the red light flashing?

The red light is not flashing. I agree that it might be an anti theft thing going on.

Mike... funny you just mentioned that. I have a recall letter from GM sitting on my desk ..... I have ignored it for a year?? Says the HVAC blower may misfunction? Thanks Mike! Wow..... thanks for your input..... if it wasnt for you I would have ignored that recall letter for another year or two.
that was for the resistor that changes the fan speed. on the third one in my '06, first two went in a couple years after it was new. first time heater fan would stay on even after you shut the truck off, second one the fan quit altogether. I just wired it direct with a toggle switch until they could get it in both times. the module is on the passenger side under the heater motor, easy to test to see if that's the problem, one pin will have power all the time. jump from that to the heater motor leads.

do you have another set of keys? try them. if the key you have in hand has a malfunction. ie slime on it. the reader may have the vehicle in secure mode.
also have you tried to adjust the brightness setting on the dash, does it have an afetrmarket stereo?

The fuse thing is getting funny! My 2 cents on fuse checking is always use a test light with key on, ground test light, probe every fuse in all fuse boxes (under hood and in dash). All fuses have a metal pin that U can probe through the back, If the fuse has power on one side only, it is blown, if there is no power on either that fuse is not live until it is fed through that circuit. I have seen more than once a circuit that the fuse was checked and was OK but when using a test light found to have low voltage or no power when it should. And the heater resistor by the heater motor is a piece of crap, the wire is always melted.

reading the posts on murm's link, I remember the ground cable from the cab to the frame being a problem and causing weird electrical gremlins. it's on the driver's side towards the front of the cab
