storing sled

has anyone built a "mezzanine" in their shop to store a sled to create more floor space? Would like to see pics. Keep in mind I don't have a forklift so how to get it up there is another question.

I built one. It’s 8x12 and doubled up 2x6 on outer edge and notched 6x6 support posts

I’ve been thinking of just hoisting and letting hang. It’s not a four stroke. Span the weight Accross many trusses. Complete with a safety chain back up.

yes but I am trying to avoid having any posts. Ideally I would like something that attaches flat to the wall with a forklift style forks and like into the air or a free hanging suspended contraption lol

Not a bad idea. Chain hoists aren't expensive.
1 ton triple geared hoist for less money than the lumber to build a platform. Spread weight over 3 joists near the outside edge and you should be good

This is what i did for loading and unloading, it took a bit of welding to install the frame work in the rafters but it work good. Lifts my sled no problem. I don't use it for storage but if located in the corner of the garage it would work great. I plan to fabricate a spreader bat to lift it up evenly with only 1 sling but just haven't got around to it yet.

Ya I didn’t want to have posts ether but then I got thinking and for the little amount of floor space it took up and never really worrying about to much weight up there now it’s worth it

I think this is something I could use but in the corner of the shop. Then build a smaller sized mezzanine just to fit a sled on it. I think I know what I am doing this spring

What about a fold up one? The legs could swing up out of the way and just build a support beam against the wall. That way if the sled comes off and the room is needed it can fold up out of the way

Tom, can you can come and build me one LOL. That's another great option! Will have to stare at the wall for a while and figure out what would be the best way.

My brother just moved to Armstrong. He's a carpenter. Keeping really busy there I guess.

its nuts to find a trades people in the Okanagan! We had to fix our basement from a spring flood so bought new flooring (vinyl plank) and wanted someone to instal it. Rona was advertising "ask us about our install". Yeah 3 weeks to get someone so did it myself. God that is a killer on the body!!!! LOL. Anyway, back to the sled storage, I actually look forward to doing stuff like that since I sit behind a desk all day so nice to keep busy building things.

That’s what I have in my garage. Managed to find a used one. Frees up so much space. I throw the bikes up in the winter and the sled up in the summer.

You can build that no problems. The electric lift might be a challenge but I'm sure princess auto has everything

Been thinking about doing the same thing in my shop. Needs to be high enough for my Commander to fit underneath and enough room up top for streetbike in the winter and sled in the summer. Also thought of making it for the sled year round and being the right height to back up with the deck, unload and drive it right back on when it’s time to ride.
