I saw one here or elsewhere where they had built the deck for storing sleds on a very heavy hinge system and would drop one side via an electric winch, load and winch it up again, then use a chain on one each corner to hold it up. Seemed pretty slick.

I agree 100%. Already have call into my builder who built the shop.

Please keep in mind roof trusses are not designed to support large amounts of weight from the bottom cord. A unit heater is one thing a 500+lb sled is another.

So if you intend to hang it off the trusses consult a professional first.

those are nice but in my case I don't have the room to have posts like that. I wanted to build a bigger shop but damn set back rules killed that idea.

Buddy of mine who has lots of toys went the lift route.

Makes a very versatile option if you have the room, height and the money.

This works for a friend of mine. We welded hooks for his trailer ramp to grab the rack. Sleds go on the trailer backwards to gain the height and up the ramp about 2.5 feet.

I don't have a forklift, but the neighbour does.

tks! BTW, what is he hiding under those covers?
One is a 67 Camaro with a 327 and the other is a 70's vintage corvette with lots of ground effects etc. He has several other resto projects on the go the most interesting is a 69 Chev reg cab pickup that he has lowered and has plans to take off all of the gutter on the cab, remove door handles yada yada and stick In a big block twin turbo with about 800 HP. Certainly an enthusiast. I like to stop in and check the progress and drink beer and rum :).

I have enough appreciation of the work it takes that I would never consider doing my own. It is fun to watch and help the odd time (when I am actually of use) The level of detail these guys get into is impressive. What do you plan for an engine in your 48? BTW, when do you find time to do the work?

I hear you! Here is a pic of the engine. Its a sbc 350 bored .0040 with forged pistons, aluminum heads/manifold, RV cam, roller rockers and added FI Tech fuel injection. Just got it running during the holidays. As for time, I try to go to my shop after supper instead of watching the boob tube and spend a couple hrs until the wife starts barking LOL. I sit behind a desk all day long so its my way of relaxing.
