Long story short...... I phucked the bar on my 15 yr old saw, I went to Brothers 2 in SE Calgary today. Bought a new bar, and they asked me if I wanted a new chain???
How much???? $30.25, for a chain.

Or...........

Stihl is having a chain sale...... Buy one, and get the 2nd for 1/2 off. Buy 2 and get the 3rd free, and so on....

I came home with 3 chains, and I just wanted to pass on the good deal ;)

If your happy with Oregon, then it's a good deal.

I'm happy With Stihl, and I think that this thread is a good deal.

Boils down to what we are all happy with.

$30 is double what I paid for Stihl chains. So, charging double for one chain, then offering 1/2 off when you buy a 2nd, makes you think you're getting an awesome deal.

Local Stihl shop charged about $25 for a chain for my 24" bar. Stihl chain holds up a lot better than Oregon IMO, I even run it on my Huskys.

If you can get them for 15 bucks, I would be buying 100 of them and selling them out of your house.

Tough to sharpen it again if you accidentally do some mining.

I got them for my 17 year old Stihl 009L, with a 16" bar.

I honestly don't give a chit, if some of you don't think it's a good deal. Because I thought it was..... and still thought I would pass it on.

I'm happy with the deal, of buy 2 and the 3rd for free. After 17 years of abuse, I have been through a few chains and I personally know the chit and abuse a chain can go through ;)

I need to pick one up for my Stihl. I didn't realize how bad it was getting until I cut some firewood with a buddy's saw.

A spare chain is good. When one goes needs sharpening put the new one on and get the the old one sharpened. I get my chains sharpened at the rental house in Leduc it's less then 10 bucks. I can't seemed to do a good job so for that price I let them do it.

ya saw chains take a beating, sthil chains are definitely more money than the oregon chain, not likely a lot of difference in the chains. more a dodge, chevy ford thing. if you only just replaced the chain in 17yrs, it doesn't owe u a dime. don't think you will ever wear out three chains. but nice to have a sharp one on hand. :twocents:

if your like me, i will never notice the difference in chains. a pro using a saw 8hrs a day 7 days a week will, homeowner no. 3 chains $60 seems reasonable. good grab.

The best way to learn about sharpening is to doo it!

Every time you put gas and oil in the saw, run the file down the teeth. The new chain will hold the file at the proper angle and give each tooth a couple of strokes. That way, unless you doo some mining (as Brandon alluded to), the chain will always be in good shape.

BTW, files are also cheap. Treat yourself and buy some new ones!
