Its like selling a house, if you know of issues you do need to disclose them. That being said, thats what carfax is for. Well worth the $75!

Best thing to do is look at the registration,if it says under "status", rebuilt instead of ,"active" is has been deemed a total loss..

Doesnt take much these days to toast a vehicle with the price of parts,,,.

ah my doorway to the autobody universe . hehe. if anyone would know i'd believe you mike. used to be a lot of curbers do this kind of auto trading.

ya i will tell you a story sometime about said people that buy and "fix" these vehicles... if it was up to me..if the vehicle sustained heavy damage,,it should be crushed and not be allowed to be sold,,to many unsafe hack jobs running around these days,

you and anyone who buys one of these frankie vehicles have the same thoughts. very unsafe and a few handling irregularities. these sellers have no problem selling, as it's all about money. write offs should be tagged and never allowed on the road.

Wrong, carfax is pretty much USELESS. I ran the vin of the written off truck I had, carfax was guaranteed clean......This was about a year after I sold it. Carfax only has the information that gets sent to them, which is usually not much.

Yes and no. If a vehicle is stolen, and the motor is blown but no other damage and it's written off because a new engine costs more then the insurance will spend, why shouldn't it be allowed on the road again? No damage that would make it unsafe. However, I believe any vehicle with ANY tiny bit of frame damage or anything welded to it, should be non-repairable. But as long as the damage is minor I see no issues repairing them and putting them back on the road.

But the inspection needs to be a lot better. The one vehicle I did, it was a joke. They didn't get a ch!t about anything just wanted the money.

That's what the parts only branding is for, never allowed on the road again unless someone is swaping vins. Crushing valuable parts vehicles would make no sense at all.

Before you start calling some guy a douchebage.....DID YOU ASK HIM IF IT WAS IN AN ACCIDENT????

I sent the guy an email specifically asking is the vehicle has ever been in an accident......reply was:"Yes this vehicle was in a accident and was rebuilt properly and inspected mechanically and structural and everything is in very good condition"

:dunno: I don't see a problem here.....if you are buying a used vehicle one of the obvious questions I would ask is "has it been in an accident"

I asked and he told me. Whats the problem?

(and no, I don't know this guy....I just clicked on the link you posted and asked)

I emailed the guy the link to the gov website where it states he must say its rebuilt, might have something to do with it. He replied with some childish swearing about how he knows the law. Plus it should be in the ad or your trying to be sketchy. What it someone forgets to ask he won't tell them anything?

I asked him if there was any damage, if the truck needs anything, how's the paint? His response was "the truck's perfect, don't need anything". He had a perfect opportunity to tell me right there and then, that it was deemed a total loss. He didn't...instead he let me drive the two hours to come and look at a write off. I was there for almost 20 minutes, looking around and asking questions....again, he could have said something....he didn't. Even when I asked him if their was front end damage, he skated around the truth...he said, "a little, but I fixed it". I said, "you fixed what"? He said, "the damage". I asked again, "what damage?" He finally fessed up that it was written off. I said, "don't you think that you should have told me that? You totally misrepresented the truck". He said, "no I didn't, I didn't say anything about it. I ain't selling you the truck". In my books, he's a total fawking douchebag. I really don't care about legalities, I just think he has a moral obligation to disclose that information.

I would have to agree. I wouldn't waste 4 hours of someone's time without disclosing something like that.

Sure, it will be harder to sell, but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I did it any other way.

I can't believe you didn't come unglued on him....
