"Just because there are tracks doesn’t mean you should follow them."

I bet I end up saying that nearly every ride, while digging someone out of my stupid track I made going yet another place I shouldn't have!
:hmm:

So very true. One of the joys of running a shorter track. Even if the sled could make it. I couldn't. LOL. I get stuck on little Alberta hills more then enough.

Very good article

[h=3]End your ride before dark[/h]It’s always safer to arrive back at the staging area during daylight hours.

These are words that we as a group try to follow every ride.
Not only because rescuers usually wait for daylight but if you have mechanical issues on the way back to the staging area, you are not stuck in the dark trying to solve problems.

And we're wore out by then anyway!

Thank you guys! I truly do believe if people know better they will do better. All we can do is reach out and try, then try again, and again.

I'm behind the times as I don't get to watch the news on tv @ home.
So I get all my news off crackbook & snow and mud & other forums.

Read this on Facebook this morning, made me think of this thread.

Calgary snowmobiler recalls daunting 31 hours spent trapped in the mountains | Globalnews.ca

Interesting story, I always ride with a fairly large survival supply in the mountains and reduce it somewhat when riding locally. I always leave with the "fall back plan" that I might not make it home. That way I have the things I need to survive.
I remember reading a story a few years back about a group that got stranded and only one has supplies, it was a frustrating night for the one who came prepared and had no choice but to share his limited supplies with the others. The answer to the question is always the same "I never thought it would happen to ME".

Sent from my phone ---- is anyone listening ?

Couldn't bring myself to sit all the way through the dog food commercial to watch the video, but the story should open a few eyes.

Realizing that you've pushed yourself pretty good during the day and the next stuck will probably be harder and take longer is another indicator of when to head back to the staging area.
You know when you're not making the turns like you did earlier in the day or during my last ride... it just wasn't my day.
