Spray Paint Aluminum

I wanna get the gas rack painted called Indy Red,I can get the exact paint but comes in spray can...Will the paint stick to aluminum or will it peel/flake off....I wanna get it powder coated but dunno what red is close to indy red...If anyone has any idea,please let me know,Thanks

Powder coat is your best bet. You can paint it however you will need to hit it with some self etching primer first.

I have had luck spray painting aluminum. I sanded the part, hit it with a tack cloth, gave it a coat of primer and painted. No flakes for the three years I owned the sled.

So if I sandblast it,then tack cloth it I shouldn't have any issue's?...still looking into powder coating though.

try to find the matching or close color

scuff it , spray bomb of etch primer then paint.It will not come off.But powder coating will look better and be way more durable.

If you glass bead or lightly sand blast the surface the paint will stick like ch!t to a blanket . I gives the paint a surface to hold on too .I have done lots of small parts this way and it holds its appeal far longer than bare aluminium .

i found a red that is pretty close and if it is off a bit owell,it's just a gas rack.So i am getting it powder coated.Thanks all for the info/advice

etch primer does not stick to aluminum as it is a lacquer base product . it needs an epoxy primer sealer or a primer sealer and then top coated with a urethane or bb/cc.
