It is with great sorrow that the Western Canadian Hillcross Association (WCHA) cancelled the Sun Peaks Hill Climb on Saturday April 20th, 2019 following an incident that claimed the life of a racer.
The WCHA is working with the RCMP and resort staff on their investigation into the event and will bring you more information as it becomes known to us. Please be patient with any outcomes or updates.
The WCHA is thankful for the support of the snowmobile community and Sun Peaks Resort. This tragedy has affected many people and our hearts go out to the family, friends, fellow riders, and all those involved.
The WCHA will not be discussing further details at this time, please direct any additional questions or inquiries to the RCMP.

So whats the story Sean? How did it happen? I'm assuming sled punched him after getting bucked off?

To be completely honest we do not fully understand. But he took an unexpected impact at the first corner. There was a speed check lip coming into the corner and he cased the small up slope coming into the corner. Hit it just right and suffered a serious neck injury. after the corner there was a small steep bank he went down and may have been injured again there as he was not in control of the machine. All of the stars had to align for this to happen its a freak accident that turned out completely unexpected and extremely unfortunate. He had been up the hill a couple times before this so he was not going in blind. Right away there was a highly experienced team working on him and they could not stabilize him on the hill so they moved him into the medicentre on the hill where they continued to work on stabilizing him to move him to the hospital once Stars Air ambulance arrived. Unfortunately he did not make it to the helicopter. He had all of his safety gear on and was a very experienced rider. A major major loss for the small community of valemount. Any one who has spent any time in the area knows the Craig family. its amazing how professional and experienced the Ski hills medic team and doctors were. Gives us comfort knowing he had the absolute best chance. Everett had been on a snowmobile since he was 5 years old and It certainly makes a guy realize how fast things can turn sideways regardless of how experienced you are. I dont think it has really sunk in for anyone yet.
