Be a long time before we see anything like that hit the streets. Way to many problems with that in our climate. Not to mention cost. Solar energy payback is extremely slow and I can almost guarantee this installation per km is likely 10-15x higher than the conventional ways we are doing now which is already insanely expensive. The infastructure doesnt exist for this to tie into. Roadways would have to be completely torn up and redone top to bottom front to back end to end. So there are about a thousand reasons why these aren't being used everywhere. You will also never see it in new developments as the municipalities make the developer pay for the roadways. An what the Fawk does a developer care what you pay for power LOL.

Hmmmmmmmm. Would this eliminate frost heaves?

They didn't really get into the structure of it. Looks almost like a concrete duct has to be poured full length. So maybe it would eliminate it if they were fastened to a concrete structure but holy $$$$ batman. And if one did heave the snow plow driver would be ejected through the windshield lol

they would be a great alternative for power for the southern US and leave the power Canada produces, for Canada !!!!

I wonder how well it would take 10,000 big rigs going over it everyday, or a snowplow dragging its blade on the "tempered glass", or a trucker that spins out on a hill and then puts chains on to get up the hill. Not to mention road salt constantly shorting them out, or people stealing them to power their own house.

They are heated. No more truckers stuck on hills because they are to lazy to chain up. No plows. No salt.

How? This will draw more power than these panels produce, if a black road doesn't heat up enough in the sun to melt off the ice, then these solar panels won't either.

I was just repeating what they said on the video

So what would happen if there was a car fire or semi fire on it?

EASY. just replace the effected panels for 15million. meanwhile there is a gaping hole in the road.

i love this concept and new technology but theres alot of missing information here and alot of hard testing data unavailable.

it is a cool idea, but like many other cool ideas, it likely wont see practical use, due to costs and implications

dont worry the city of vancouver will buy it for translink they have lots of money they just up taxes on the working... freak i hate that places attitude... sorry end rant

but on a serious note... the panels look small maybe 2x2 easy to replace if needed... prob best suited for a city put electricity back into the grid if it produced extra HOWEVER im no solar power expert but isn't the material in solor panels very hard and limited to come by... not to mention hard to mine??? I recall someone responed a while back on snowandmud about that exact thing... anyone know?

great concept... im a believer in the more concepts we see the closer we come to something practicle

If there were batterys stored underneath... it could turn out to be pretty cool!
