In bc you must carry liability insurance to operate any motorized toy on forest service roads even if covered in snow so I would think most of the access roads are fsr so your supposed to have it, around where I live the logging roads are 90 % privately owned but even then there security will stop and ask if you do, if ya don't they will follow you back to the pavement and make you leave.

Don't believe that is correct. Snowmobiles do not require insurance unless crossing a highway. It isn't required on unplowed FSR's and it is illegal to ride on a plowed one.

I have always register and Insure the snowmobile i ride . have never been asked for either .our 78 ET 250 has Antique plate on it.. Trudope stopped that in 2020. no more Antique plates on sleds. But they do need to be registered and Insured if not on your own land.

I’ve always carried insurance and registration but never mounted a plate. I think I’ve been checked once in 20 years honesty I don’t mind keeps the stolen sleds in check in the main areas but if your running hot gear are you travelling to Boulder…...I think not. If you don’t have liability insurance you’re just dumb.

Only reason to register a sled is for theft purposes, govt does nothing for the community except make things difficult. For that reason I register a sled or sxs only once when I first get it. Then the VIN is in my name and I never renew. Carry full coverage insurance though. Only had to use it once but sure came in handy when I hit that black bear in my SXS. Wrote it off and it was a no fault so no penalty and full replacement cost paid out, bought back for $2800 and fixed for $1200. Win win for me, cool story and got my sxs back good as new

Last summer. I almost hit a bear on my Harley. Ripping two up. If one wrote off your side-by-side, it definitely would’ve dummied us on the bike.

It was like hitting a rock that screamed back at me after lol. It bounced us at about 50mph all the way to the other side of the road into a skid and then we rolled over. Got lucky, I hit it on the passenger side front tire, if it was 1 second later I would of plowed square into it, that might of ended worse
