Sled deck on 1/2 ton?

What if the 1/2 ton is a diesel? That changes everything.

yes it has alright, new guys have questions, may not be able to find answers, or know who to ask, it becomes repetitve, but i'm thinking it is better to answer or send him to the appropriate thread than to alienate a new member. if he asks a car salesman, he will be told it can haul anything. just my opinion.

My 2500HD long box with 2 sleds, 2 people, gear for 2 people, aluminum flat deck, and a 4 jerry cans of extra gas (truck and sleds were full of fluids but dry with no ice and snow build-up) was 200# under the GVW. That truck has a GVW of 9200#.

a 2013 crew long box duramax is 7500 lbs. gvwr is 10,000 lbs. SO 2500 payload. -600 lbs sled, -600 lb sled. -200 lb man - 200 lb man - 180 lbs extra gas -50 lbs gear -200 lbs sled deck? is 470 lbs left give or take so yes a 2500 is right on the edge! Go down to a ext cab and you gain some payload, go to a gas motor and you gain some more!

a 1500 ram crew 5'7" box is 5500 lbs for a laramie.... 6800 gvwr so 1300 lbs payload - 600 lbs sled - 600 lbs sled - 200 lb rider - 200 lb rider - 50 lbs gear - 200 lbs deck

you are 550 lbs over your gvwr!

Basically you fill your 5 seats with a 200 lbs guy per seat and a full tank you can put 300 lbs in the box.

edit:

just looked again and curb weight means fuel and fluids so i took that out of the calculations

also what i find weird is the cummins 2500 is 1100 lbs more than the hemi 2500 but they have similar payload?? do they lessen the axle gvwr on the gas 2500s??? cause thats stupid.

just looked at gmcs webside the duramax is 800 lbs heavier than the 6.0 gas. the gvwr is 600 less with the gas than the diesel??? Is it to keep the rating near the 2500 lb payload i suppose?? cause otherwise the 2500 gas would have near a 3500 payload...

No deck weighs 200 lbs. With a ramp and plywood its probably 350 or more. As I said before to the OP, there's no way to make the internet math work, load the truck upand go to the self-weigh scale, you will be more than surprised.

One thing I will point out is that is seems like most trailers are cheaper then sled decks to purchase. It's like buying a deck with a free axle underneath depending how you look at it.

i had a deck on my 2011 f150 5.0l 4x4 4 door 6.5' box last year, all fueled up with one sled on marlon deck, all the gear, and just me in truck and i weighed in at 7400# GVWR is 7350. i ended up going to a f250 6.2 gas.

Thanks to some of the responses.. I was just wondering how far fetched it would be or anything I could do to make it possible . Have been using a trailer for the last 8 years I guess I will continue to do so. To all the S&M heroes that felt it was necessary to make a sarcastic comment sorry for upsetting you...

I ran a deck on a half ton for a couple years, was great around here for hauling and convinent for local riding, I even went into BC twice with two on it, had airbags etc and yes I was overweight but never had an issue or got hasseled. The big problem is the ride, even with airbags it would unweight the front end on certain dips, bumps etc and with slick roads I had the fron end slide a few times. NEVER AGAIN! Just don't do it, not worth it!

I just raised this issue to my car salesmen buddy, I got the classic of course a half ton will handle it! I then went on, really what are you saying is payload? he says 1500 lbs... Add 2 riders, 2 sleds, weight of deck then I ask him where do I put my Jerry cans?? Classic, he on the spot went oh **** you'd need a 3/4 ton wouldn't you... I wouldn't do it, I've been asking the same question this year but why run a deck if you can only move a single sled anyway?

I would prefer to not have a over loaded 1/2 ton on the hwy's with black ice n sh/t meeting me on a two lane thanks, but people make there own choices safe or not. How about seeing a truck at Zalas in revy with 38" mud tires so bald the don't leave tire tracks In 6" of snow. Montana plates and a $40.000 yami turbo on the deck. But no winter tires. Now that's scary. The cops towed it that night which was awesome.

I just confirmed with Full Lotus as that's the deck Im going with, their shorty deck with ramp is just under 550 lbs, I'm sure the composite decking they use is heavier then regular plywood but wow, My old marathon was around 350. Maybe I should of got a 1 ton instead of a 3/4
