Sled deck on 1/2 ton?

For me.. the perfect truck for my needs would be a Heavy Duty Gasser. I need the higher payload but not the diesel. After owning a diesel I said I would NEVER buy one again unless it’s getting paid. I picked up my F150 for under $50,000. Hauls my sled just fine. Rides nice and I get 850 Kms out of tank of gas. That being said I have been hauling 2 sleds more often then not and a 2500 or 250 with a gas engine would be good.

I have a 3/4T diesel with only about 70K and lots of warranty left, when I decide to get another truck it will be a gasser mostly due to the fact that I do not haul or tow nearly as much as I used to.
Will be looking into seeing the max payload I can set up a 1/2 ton to if ordered with the right towing options.
Trailer loaded with 4 sleds is 7500# and only 4 trips with my truck towing, brother tows the other 4 trips.
5th wheel is 8000# but only goes 20km to the lake then another trip anyway for picking up the boat....twice a summer.
Really thinking about being "one of those guys" if I can keep it legal.....and safe.

Only problem is the extended sled deck with two sleds loaded and gear is likely 2100#ish with passenger included.

You need a better mechanic. $300+ for a fuel filter? Why the heck would you need to replace a head gasket? You think they are just popping left and right off warranty?

I’m not even sure a dealership could pull off 300$ fuel filters lol

Ya, I may have been aggressive on that pricing for most, but I get Rotella 15/40w on sale at Canadian tire @ $64.99 for 18.9L. Which is $3.43/L. You can get bulk 15w40 all day long at $3 or less.

Fuel filters are $60. It takes an hour of labour to do it. I prefer to do it myself. A garage obviously charges a grossly high amount to change it.

An hr to change the fuel filter?
20 min to do mine on my LML and I never pulled the inner fender. And my fuel filter is $90 and that’s for a quality fleetguard not a cheapo Napa pos.

I haven't seen anyone mention the new generation Dodge 1500. Apparently it has upped tow and payload capacities by 20% over the 2018 generation. So should be good for: _____(insert here)_____

It is only 5 extra litres of oil on a duramax vs a 1/2 ton, so $15? Pretty sure we can say it's the same cost. Yes, DEF is extra, but come on, its $25/oil change. I don't think those $$ would say the extra high cost of maintenance is not worth driving a diesel.
Actually the new gas 5.3 Chev is close to 8 l and a dmax is 10 l

$15 for an extra 5L of oil? It's more like $50 for me plus about $50 of DEF between oil changes. Then there's the DEF heater at $600 a pop (I've gone through two). I think it costs over $300 to have the DPF cleaned, $300+ to replace the fuel filter, $4000 for injectors. God help you if you have to replace a head gasket at $8K to 10K a pop.
Your def heater is warranty. Special policy



Get your money back lmao, also they added bunch of stuff covered that happen lots

You are definitely right about needing a better mechanic! I'm sure I paid over $300 for each fuel filter change I've had. I think it is because they have to take off mud flaps and fender flares to get the wheel well liner out. I don't necessarily think that the head gaskets pop left and right, but I do imagine they are something you need to start keeping an eye on after 200K. I've been slowly loosing small amounts of coolant and my exhaust smells strange, so I've been obsessing about the cost of possibly having to change my head gasket at only 175K.

Also lots of other stuff for coolant to go missing, unless it's cranked right up chipped, I've never seen a 08 and newer head off a d max

And that's 7 years at 2 different g.m dealers

Ya i know you don't need to pull the wheel liner, but it is a whole bunch easier to do it when it is your first time. You can't see crap and you don't want to get dirt into the new filter. I took the time, being my first time and pulled half of the wheel screws out, took me 5 min and let the liner hang. Then I could see everything. I also loosened the air filter clamps and removed that one plastic piece to better see the top of the filter and easier to prime it. All in all, took me 45 min dicking around. I could do it in 20 next time including the wheel liner.

This was on a 16'.

Simple fix and keep my maintenance cost down, I'm going to put diesel in my megacab gasser and it should give me the same payload as a diesel correct? I do have axel dump exhaust and a 6" tip and it does have a sled deck so it should work right... would i need t change the oil out as well? this thread will never die:rockon:

When you change the oil be sure to flush the crank with gas to get all remaining residue out before pitting oil back in

My SxS has a payload of 1500lbs. Can I pack two quads on it if I build a proper roof rack?

Would have to be aluminum I suspect to keep the weight down

Put a quad in the back of your sxs while it is in the back of your truck.
