I got the full skid plate on my 13, and regret it now .. should've gotten the race version to avoid all the snow buildup

thinking about drilling some holes with a hole saw in there to help evacuate snow rather than buying a new one

Anyone do this ? how were the results

it's my opinion that the skidplates are a waste of money. they aren't going to save anything if you hit an object hard enough. they may stop you from hanging up on a tree or log if you're going slow, but that's it. I took mine off

On the rev chassis they only offered the full skid plate so I took an angle grinder and cut back the pieces under the A-arms so it was just a landing strip between the front and back. Waiting on a red extreme plate for the xm.

I went with the full skid plate with intentions like Bnorth posted. I wanted more coverage on the nose piece that the full plate had. I had other sleds where a branch will go right through the thin plastic on the nose cone. The extreme covered just a small portion of it. If the ice build up is too much it's getting the sawzall treatment around the a-arms.

but the rev the steering was inside where it wouldn't bind up like the xp-xm

i'm still on the fence ... have the full on my xp and drilled holes in the middle to let the snow out [ about the only thing its good for is so u can get the snow out with a stick ] snow still stays there .... yes the extra nose coverage is good for sure ...

yeah I guess cutting out a whole section would be more helpful than drilling holes

off to the surgery table

even without a skid plate the snow gets jamed into the s module [ mine was packed last weekend ] without a skid plate ..... stupid having the turning point on the outside and not on the inside [ like the revs had ]

i have to get something but not sure what to get .... the rpm ones are nice but mo money, mo money .... and the snow will still jam in there ....

I think the full adds some floatation.. had the extreme but does nothing.. the full keeps the front up a bit on the blower days IMO....

but yes sow builds a bit I just give it a kick after stopping

I ran the xtreme on my 2011 xp and now on my xm. I know for sure that thing has saved me from damage as I have had a few hard stops with it. I think the full skids plates look bulky, and hold to much snow and ice. If you have a heated trailer.... not an issue, if you don't...well you know the answer.

X2 on that! The a-arms don't have as much drag on them. And if the snow slides over the a-arms rocks and stumps should to. I never noticed it icing up on me last weekend.

The skid plate has saved many a problem with stumps and rocks throughout the season. Sure, the big ones still doo the damage but the small and in between rocks/stumps just slide underneath.

The ice can build up but like JoHN_I says, just kick out the snow and ice before it freezes. To me, it is sort of like having to clean off the air intakes; a pain in the arse but something a guy has to doo.

I have the extreme on mine mainly so things dont get caught up in the s module from underneath and it has something between it and the object its sliding over if I end up having something to bump over. Its done its job so far over stumps and obstacles Iv encountered.

Buy an Rpm and you won't go back. An axe won't go through that plate so a stump and rock isn't going through it either. Plus if your smart you will add grip n rips which that plate is molded for and even stronger then. But all of that aside even your plastic plates save your coolers somewhat and that's important. Any of you guys with no plate look at the first thing that will catch on a rock or tree if it's sliding on it and it's your front cooler. That ends a day fast.
