I agree with what councillor Young said. They were different times and obviously policies created then may not be appropriate today however you can't lose sight of the positive things he did as well I mean he was one of the founders of the country! I bet 90% of the statues of individuals standing all over Canada / World have skeletons in their closets. After all, back in the day survival and conquer were the main objectives. Even Alexander the Great who conquered all the way to China probably did very questionable actions compared to todays world. Totally stupid!

The only way to not repeat the mistakes made by our leaders of the past is to know the history behind them. Erasing him from our history just because it hurts feelings today isn’t the right thing to do. Instead they should be educating and teaching both the indigenous, immigrants and other Canadians on what happened and what we have learned from that time to improve and shape how government operates and deals with the social issues among others of today.
